I collect a number of areas of topics related to golf and one of my favorites are Sports Illustrated 's magazines with coversthat relate to golf. There have ben about 225 SI'S out of almost 4000 issues that relate to golf and I was pleased to have recently picked up the 1/16/1956 issue that was in VG condition.
The cover--Mike Souchak hitting an iron to a green at Pebble.
ADS- Johnson Sea Horse, Porsche, Hennessy Cognac, Big Brothers of America, Starcraft Boats, Anacin, Boca Raton Hotel & Club and Century Boat.
Golf instruction piece ( Tip From The Top) by Shelley Mayfield representing The Meadow Brook Club In Westbury NY.
Great article on Bob Cousy penned by none other than HERB WIND.Cousy played his College ball at Holy Cross and his coach was Doggy Julian who later went on to coach at Dartmouth. My Dad and Doggy were good friends as was I and his son Jeff, a well know PGA Pro who passed away way too young from ALS. Jeff was also a recipient of the Ben Hogan Award.
Great article on the Crosby with some nice color photos especially one shot of the 9th at Cypress looking back from green to tee although I don't recall that much sand. Nic shot from behind 16th tee with alot of spectators.
A one page pictorial called " Men With Sticks" featuring Mr. Hogan Tommy Blt and and Ike
A report on the LA OPEN at Rancho penned by Jim Murray.
My favorite " find ", though was a little blurb at the bottom of page 9 that read:
"GLASGOW GOLFERS HAVE GONE ON STRIKE AND ARE BOYCOTTING EIGHT MUNICIPAL COURSES. THEY ARE PROTESTING RECENTLY DOUBLED GREEN FEES, WHICH WERE RAISED TO 42 CENTS ON SUNDAYS AND 28 CENTS ON WEEKDAYS ".
