Happy Thanksgiving to the tree house. Just wondering if your club (public or private) is open today.

Yes. And Busy. Usually one of our busiest days of the year with family/guest play. We will have 300-350 for dinner tonight. They come in waves.

Club hosts a Thanksgiving day brunch, which I think is well attended. But the course probably won't see much play today as it's covered with 3-4 inches worth of snow. A long, gray winter is ahead.

Maybe it's a Southern thing.  Busy golf and a couple hundred for turkey dinner.

Now if Alabama was on TV, cut that in half.   ;D

Nope; closed today.  10 am shotgun start on Black Friday, which is a great idea IMO.

You can go play golf on the course - use the secret code to open the gate to the driveway.  However, nothing else is open.  You are completely on your own.  The building is closed, no motorized carts available, bag room locked, etc.  I think maybe an on-course toilet facility is open, though.

My club is closed today. However We are at the beach for a few days and the course right down the street is open. I'll play at 1pm, should be upper 40's and 8-10mph breeze without a cloud in the sky.

I went out just before dark yesterday for a quick nine holes. Windy with a gale warning offshore and about a solid two club wind on the course. It was fun...lost two balls and found four!

Open in Pennsylvania, but way too cold and windy to play golf.  Plus, we had 2" of rain yesterday.

They'll have a nice dinner geared to families, and they usually have pretty good attendance.

I believe our courses are closed, but the club is serving Thanksgiving brunch and lunch.

However, this topic reminds me of the great tradition back in my hometown, Augusta.  It is one of the only days of the year that Forest Hills is closed.  So, everyone in town would come line up at the first tee after lunch and play golf for free.  The course would leave the pins in as their Thanksgiving gift to the town.

Can anyone who still lives there comment on if they still do this?

Yes, and I feel sorry for the people that have to work. Of course that is probably because I am at work right now too!

Open, but cold and windy. We had a shotgun scheduled for tomorrow, but it looks like it will be cancelled due to not enough interest driven by cold weather, expected high of 37. I'll be out looking for a game though.

Club is open, a balmy 50 degrees and it's gray as can be.

Me, I'm working, baked a lemon merengue pie and sweet potato dish at the same time and headed to Thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of American friends.

Europe doesn't celebrate of course. They regret not having claimed this land themselves and letting entire North America slip away. It was a bad choice from a future investment perspective.

Considering it was 19 degrees here in Charlotte this morning, it sounds less idyllic.   ;D
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Carolina started this policy just a few short years ago... being closed on Thanksgiving Day.  Was born out of low attendance when we used to be open.  The staff really appreciates the opportunity to have a true holiday off work.  Members are welcome to come and walk the course at their leisure, even bring guests at no charge!  We mowed greens, changed holes, and raked the bunkers yesterday in preparations for those wanting to enjoy the course today.

My Thanksgiving Day tradition now consists of traveling to the course very early and riding through the property just make sure things are not "out of the ordinary", and in the case of today...make sure nobody trekked out onto the course before the frost lifted  :)

I love the peacefulness and tranquility of just being alone and seeing the course "wake up" from its evening rest!

But right now, 12:30 p.m., up to a toasty 37 F in the shade.   ;)  Should be even toastier in the bright sunshine.  I've done the Thanksgiving special in the past, but am conflicted today.  It is a very nice, different opportunity to play.

8 am shotgun for play but it can be a long round with a random mix of players.  Course shuts down around 1.  My mom lives on 3rd hole so we play golf, baseball, flash light tag, you name it all afternoon.  People walk their dogs, run around with family and the club is fine with it.  Pretty cool.  Big skins game tomorrow.

If the weather is better next year, I'll meet you at the gate.  The "no charge" is a guest rate I can fully support :D

Our course is open every Thanksgiving but with very few employees; today practically no one is playing because it's 38 degrees and it rained a ton Tuesday and Wednesday.

There's a turkey buffet later--have never attended, so don't know what it's like.

That's a great policy.
The world has shifted way too much to taking away Holidays from the rank-and -file worker. (Black Friday nonsense- which now starts on Thursday ::) ::), being a prime example)
Win-win (unless you're a high maintenance prick although often there's some crossover as some of the same people love the free guest policy ;D)
Works well on Christmas day as well.

When you guys say your club is closed, do you mean the clubhouse etc. or is the course itself closed (golf forbidden) as well?
