Chalfont Park Hotel has a small golf course in the background:

Gerrards Cross Golf Club. I'm going there tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see what it's like now!

Tom, Isn't Gerrards Cross GC somewhat more extensive than the course shown in the aerial?

I believe the course extends out of shot to the right of this photo. Judging by Google Earth the photo is taken looking north over the hotel, clubhouse, 1st tee and 18th green. The routing looks the same as today's course and it was built in 1922 according to their website so should be there.

Very interesting site Mark,

I found an NLE on the Isle of Wight, the extinct Needles Golf Club that ran along the high chalk cliffs of Tennyon Downs towards the Needles.
An incredibly spectacular setting with extensive views.

I met someone who played there, he said when the wind was up it got very difficult, but at least the golf balls were blown inland.

The course has been abandoned for some time, although some of the greens, tees and bunkers are still recognisable in the terrain.

Thanks, John. That looks as spectacular as Old Head.
