In Praise of Josh Smith
« on: October 02, 2013, 01:17:30 PM »
I only had one guy in mind when I wanted to commission a golf painting.  I was sure Josh could capture the raw intensity of Pennard yet highlight the warming heather colours.  Josh didn't disappoint.  I started this process in 2007 and my persisitence paid off by hanging the painting this year.  I love it!

I don't know how many folks have Josh's work on their walls, but if you, lets see it.

Pennard's 10th hole as seen from the 9th fairway.

Sean -

Very nice painting.

Did Josh visit Pennard to paint this picture or did you send him a photo?

Oh gaaaawd!. Isn't this thread OT.  ;) Where do I send the check?.

Sean, glad you like it..More than half the photos you post would make awesome paintings.   Can we look forward to another tour soon?

Thanks for your patience on the Pennard oil.

David, sadly I've never traveled further than Streamsong for a painting,or golf etc.

Josh is certainly talented - he has an amazing eye and ability to capture both the physical beauty of these locations along with somehow tapping into the emotion of the place as well...

My wife purchased the below from Josh for my birthday this year - it is hanging in my office at home.

I was just looking at Josh's website and (coming off the great weekend at the Mashie) was wondering which Kingsley member was lucky enough to have this...it is a truly stunning rendition of the 6th.  Beautiful work.

Sean - I'm glad you finally got your painting home to England. I've worried about that several times over past couple years. It took a circuitous route, didn't it!

Since a few GCA collectors are not posting photo saavy, I will post their originals.  Although I cannot find a digital copy of Jim Urbina's Pacific Dunes 11 anywhere.

Jim Franklin,

Yes I did do a Ballyneal 8 painting.  This is the only photo I found handy of it, before the flagstick went in.

Thanks.

Josh,
Mouth-watering (well maybe eye-watering!) stuff.  Gather them all up and have  a retrospective down at Pinehurst with Chris Buie as Master of Ceremonies!!! That would make for a fine GCA outing!

Cheers Colin
