Bumping this. We lost the updated roster, specifics of the tournament, etc.
Thanks for pointing that out, Peter. More specifics with regards to the roster will soon be on the way. [I
think we may now be full, with those not having paid their deposits placed on a waiting list. Will know for certain when I talk to Leanne tomorrow morning.]
In the meantime here are a few more details from 5th Major HQ:
DENVER TO DRIt’s about 5 hours from Denver to Dismal River, but it’s a pretty cool drive, especially on the tail end. Still, 5 hours is 5 hours, so if you want to break up the trip, stop off for a bite at the
J&L Cafe in Sterling, Colorado (I-76 @ mile marker 125). The burgers are tasty and just greasy enough so that you’ll smell like one for the next hundred miles. That is, until you pass the feed lot just west of Ogallala, where you’ll wish it was a hamburger you were smelling. I’ve yet to be in the car that can keep the stench of a thousand head of cattles’ urine out of it! While you’re in Ogallala, it’s a good idea to stop and fill up the car (or further east in North Platte, depending on your route) before that last leg through the sand hills, as you’re still going to have another 1:30-2 hours ahead of you and (obviously) the same distance back on your day of departure.
THURSDAYI understand many of you are planning to arrive on that Thursday, which is great! I love the buzz the day before the tournament. Everyone’s ready to party and it’s obviously a great opportunity to loosen up and play the courses before the tournament begins on Friday. Skins game?? If you haven’t already made your reservation for Thursday, now is the time. Email Shanda at smesic@dismalriver.com or call the club at 308-546-2900.
PUTTING CONTESTThat evening is the annual putting contest, held out on the clubhouse practice green. Say hello to your fellow competitors and GCA brethren in a relaxed and informal setting, where the drinks will be flowing, the music will have a decent chance of being okay and the winner will walk away with a nice chunk of change. It’s a wicked putting course too - a solid Partridge 9*. *Hole #5 gets under our panelists’ skin and holds it back in the rankings.
FLIGHTS 7 Flights. Flights will be determined by total team handicap. Patrick Kilbride, Dismal’s PGA Professional, and his staff will verify handicaps using the June 1, 2014 revision.
FOURBALL COMPETITIONYour team will play a series of 9 hole matches against the teams in your flight, scoring the matches by holes Won (1), Lost (0), or Tied (1/2). The team accumulating the most total points in your flight wins the flight and advances to the playoff with the other flight winners.
