The University of Texas is planning to do the same to a nice muni, Lions.  University costs are and have been out of control, this is just one more example.

ASU is planning to do the same with their Karsten GC in Tempe. They will move nearby to the Phoenix muni Papago and manage the course too. The land will be developed into dorms and apartments primarily to attract out of state students with the accompanying higher tuition. It's just too valuable to remain a golf course.

Also, the baseball field will be gone and the team will play at  nearby Phoenix Munical Stadium, the winter home of the Oakland A "s.

Ohio State is most definitely not eliminating its golf courses. In fact, the university just recently received a large donation from alums to spend on the golf facilities and program. A large, state-of-the-art training and indoor practice facility is being constructed on the golf course property next to the clubhouse.
