Royal Colwood History Published

Royal Colwood Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. is celebrating its centenary this year and I am proud to announce, as the author, that the 100 year history is being printed as I write this.

RCGC is the first course designed by Arthur Vernon Macan, and by most accounts, remains the closest to its original design.  It was a revolutionary course design for the West Coast of North America and remains a highly regarded course today.  I posted a description of the course a few years back in the "In My Opinion" section and for those interested it can be found here - http://www.golfclubatlas.com/in-my-opinion/royal-colwood/

The 100 history is a fairly short book that focuses very much on the development and history of the course and the evolution of the holes, and not on the club itself.  I wanted to present the course from a golf architecture perspective, so I promise there are no pictures of people wearing funny hats while attending the 1956 New Years Party!

It is not for me to comment on the quality of research and writing but I can say the graphic design and quality of printing is superb.  A fellow club member, Doug Bobolo, is responsible for the appearance, and he is truly a talented graphic designer.

I thought some here might be interested in purchasing a copy and hence this post.  Copies will be available when the club receives the book for $40 which includes taxes and shipping.  Please PM if interested.
I've seen an architecture, something new, that has been in my mind for years and I am glad to see a man with A.V. Macan's ability to bring it out. - Gene Sarazen

Dale, I'm looking forward to another go at Royal Colwood in late June.  Look forward to seeing you then.

(I am assuming His Honour Bob Jenkins QC has warned you about our plans!)

Congratulations Dale.  That is certainly a labour of love.

My local Macan published a centennial book this year but I haven't had a chance to check it out.  Let me know if you want me to grab you a copy.

What's next? ;)

What other Macan club is celebrating their centennial this year?

I should let Will answer but the answer is ...  Qualicum!

Thanks Dale. I didn't realize Qualicum has been around that long. A quick glance at Michael Riste's book has a few additional renovations done by Macan through the years. Is there any Macan left there worth seeking out?

And congratulations on completing the book for Colwood. When it becomes available, I would be interested in a copy. You wouldn't have to twist my arm to pick it up in person either... :)
