Not to mention that members of Medinah have an example to set for the rest of us. There can't be a better bag for a caddie to grab.
I'm certainly no example. That said, those Beverly guys throw money at caddies like I've never seen. A tip, caddies should pick up one of their bags first.
We probably overpay - my sense it is because you see some high school or college kid humping it to get the Evans or a kid who didn't, trying to get thru school. We also have a fair number of guys who caddied there who are very supportive. We also feel fortunate to have the 200 kids who spend the summer working for us. Hopefully we positively shape a few lives along the way. It's all good in the Chicago area with the support of the caddy programs-Medinah being one of the leaders.Llooks like another 100 plus kids will get the Evans in the Chicago area this year. Great way to give back to the game.
You do not overpay. You have a unique and refreshing caddy program at Beverly where you only use high school kids, and make them carry only one bag. I think it is great, you spread the work and help more kids, but caddies carrying doubles make much more. I really enjoyed all the kids who were caddying in our group: they were attentive, found every wayward shot, even when I did my best to lose a ball on your driving range... and we never had to wait for them to catch up.
But JR, I also happen to like having a good double caddy. There is an art to effectively handling two bags, not making either player wait, reading both putts, etc. I really enjoy watching a really professional caddy work. And I enjoy the "break" you get when walking alone sometimes. At Bandon, I felt like my single caddy was my shadow for 4 days. He was with me every step of the way, even when I wanted to be left alone to contemplate one of my many crappy shots.
