Agreed, Whiskey's behavior was like nothing I've ever seen on a golf course.  Completely bizarre.

An interesting note is that Garmin has not mapped the courses but there are ample sprinkler heads.  For some odd reason the caddies do not repair ball marks.  Sure the greens are firm but I had to find and repair each of my marks.  Unless you are like me and need help just carrying your bag they are the most overvalued item on property.

Like most resorts they also encourage you to cheat.  I noticed my opponents caddie teed his ball up on every shot. When I told my caddie that I would not improve my lie in an unfortunate situation he flat out asked my why not.  I also had the pleasure of walking my bag up to the first tee on the Blue where I found my caddie waiting.  Seems if you don't have a bag stand they don't know how to que your bag.

Also, because I was a guest, I didn't say anything when the caddie removed my driver headcover for the day.  I don't want to buy a new driver this year and he did manage not to scar it up.  That was a plus.

If you have traveled at all the courses are 100% straight forward.  I can not imagine, in a double bagged situation, being saved a single shot.  Truth of the matter is that under their fee structure of $80 plus tip per bag they have zero motivation to hump it.  They be getting $100 each no matter what.  Even though our caddie ran a clever con and got double paid by us and our host. Good for him because by the time I saw it going down it was too late to say anything without embarrassing everyone.

I will say, and it pains me to do so because I am a huge supporter of caddie programs, that the caddie program at Streamsong is walking a fine line - one that may prevent the overall success of the whole endeavor.

My group each paid $640 dollars for a 1/2 room one night and two rounds.  Fine, I'm okay with that and my group was okay with that.  We each got a caddie for the day.  As stated, my caddie was great.  For the 36 holes, I paid him $400....about $40-50 more than average so he told me.  Most of the other guys paid around that as well. 

Out of the group of 8 caddies, 4 were great, 2 were fine and 2 were god-awful.  But even the god-awful caddies cost my guys $360+.  Once you're done eating lunch, breakfast and having a beer or two, the day has gone from something pretty reasonable into something really expensive.  Certainly, with those numbers, 99% of people are not spending 3-4 days there.

In my opinion, once you've visited a few times, Ireland, Scotland, Bandon or somewhere unique becomes the preferred option.

I think Streamsong needs to be a bit of value to really succeed - and right now, it's not even close.

Do not get me wrong cause I loved the golf courses and will go back.

However they have not figured out how to manage rounds at Streamsong and a big reason is that they only allow double bagging. There is no question that this adds significant time to a round. Last Friday we enjoyed a 2 and 1/2 hour afternoon front nine on blue and walked  back to the clubhouse from 14 to make it in before dark fell. In four scheduled rounds I only played 18 once on the blue because of time. We did get a rain check for a round from the director of golf. They have done an admirable job of staffing and I'm sure double bagging is part of the attraction but I will never play under that circumstance. Trolley's are fine

Those rates seem crazy and exceed by a fair margin the going rate in and around metro NY.  Once you pay for everything else this seems like a "kick em while they are down" strategy. WOW!?!?!?!

I would pay my guy, Noah, the money again and not flinch for a one day trip as he made the experience better and added to my enjoyment of the golf.  But, that said, I'm not sure I'd be so keen in doing it for 3-4 days.  And that's really a problem with a destination resort.

Agreed. I don't regret my time or money spent there at all.  It just won't be a yearly destination.  More like an every 5-10 years.

Ryan,    I think it's a one and done place for all but a very few guys. The golf is great but my caddy was mediocre to the point where I carried my own clubs the second day. The green knowledge wasn't any better than mine. Nice guy but he was a bag toter. The price point was expensive- all in I spent 2K there for 4 rounds, caddies , food/drinks, 2 nights lodging . Guys that I talk to would rather hook up with their pals at the privates and pay a guest fee which is considerably less than a round at Streamsong . No knock on the quality of the golf- it's very good.

Just curious, where are the other places you'd rather spend the money?

For the record, I did a one day at Streamsong, not overnight, was a corporate junket.  I had a great time, the courses were excellent, and I had no issues at all with the caddie experience (that said, I know it's part of the package.  I'm used  to it and can deal with the schtick).  While nice and I really enjoyed the day, I'm not sure I'd make a trip of it on my own dime.  For my winter golf, I'll most likely stick close to the FL coasts and close to an airport.  Truth be told, I'm not looking to get my golf architecture skirt blown up during the winter.  As for other times during the year, well, being in the metro Philly area, why would I travel there?

I'd rather drive to Pittsburgh and play Oakmont and Fox Chapel. I'd rather go to NY and play on Long Island. I'd rather go back to Kingsley and also play Crystal Downs. I'd rather go to Erin Hills. I'd rather go to Tennessee and play Holston Hills and Lookout Mountain. I'd rather go to San Francisco. I could go on and on.

Not saying I wouldn't like to play Streamsong, but it's not on my bucket list at the moment.

Am I getting it right that you guys were paying the recommended $80 price per bag per 18 holes and tipping an additional $80 to $120 per bag per round?  Seems a little excessive!

I'm going to be there next week with Howard's group and may have to take a cart and required forecaddie  (not sure about 36 holes two days in a row in possibly hot conditions).  I certainly wouldn't have even thought to tip that much (but then I've only taken a caddie maybe three times in my long life and only when required).  I've played three times at SS and walked with trolley 36 each time because I couldn't stomach the caddie fee either as a single on a cart or walking with a caddie.  No value proposition for me.  I have played there with others who had caddies, some of whom were entertaining and some not so much.
