New GCA Acronyms
« on: November 24, 2012, 09:18:37 AM »
I was inspired by the thread on Failings of American Golf to come up with some potential new acronyms then I just kept going, so I thought it was worthy of it's own thread.  I know we have some creative people lurking about (Gib?) or at least some verbose inbreds, so here's my current list for your perusal.  Feel free to add your own nominees, critique mine or both.  The proof will be in the pudding as to whether any of the best, or worst, come into the common parlance..  So here goes:

BNE-       Belt Notching Envy
AWW-    Access Whore Wannabe
BBB-       Beginner Butt-Boy  (Also known as B Cubed)
PLATO-   Play the Top 100.  #4 with a bullet IMO...As in John Doe has a PLATO chub.
FFF-        Firm & Fast or F%^& it   (or F Cubed)
CDB-       Coore, Doak or Bust.  Can be applied more broadly to any of the current generation of minimalists or the dreaded groupthink.
PSB-       Play it in a Scramble with lots of Beer (Nice way of saying it's a dogtrack or Doak 0-3).  As in "I'd say the Cashen is PSB".
LCE-       Low Capper Envy or bowing down to opinions of better players than yourself.
KJED-     Knows just enough to be dangerous.  As in "Garland is KJED"  ;D   I probably fall into this category as do many hereabouts..

BMW - Ban Metal Woods - a general term for someone who wants to roll the calendar back to the 1970s when there were no metal woods, hybrids, rangefinders, belly putters or 60 degree wedges.

WWMS? - What Would Melvyn Say? - usually said by someone defined above.

 8) Jud,

THere may have been a similar thread previously, can't immediately find it, but who cares..., I think one year it was in the depths of the northern latitude's winter... and now that I see white areas hitting east of Traverse City, can't be too long till the cabin fever starts rolling farther south..

I like most of your new suggestions and certainly they can be strung together in a SGM (social golf media) texting way like on gca.com, I mean the B-Cubed with BNE certainly got started with some gateway RINO's (raters in name only) and they learned CDB was cool but not the only way to be, but as an AWW and LCE they were sometimes stymie'd beyond thingking about PLATO...

Jud -

off the top of my head (OTTOMH), I'd say that the most prevalent/useful acronyms (MPUA) include:

SSP - shameless self promotion, applicable to either the very good golfer and/or an impressive list of courses played
MP - meaningless palaver, formerly known as beard pulling (BP)
imPo - in my Personal opinion, where 'personal' actually means not personal at all, but objective fact
AWTP - anyone want to play, where the explicit invite is actually an implicit seeking of access
HAIA - here's an interesting article, i.e. one that I agree with and that I would've written better myself if I could only be bothered
T - thanks, when one means to say 'but no thanks'
IS - it sucked, but I don't want to be rude and say that, lest I hurt anyone's feeling and/or make AWTP a non-starter

In short, I hope this MP is understood as imPo only, T

P

Don't get me started on that PCC, where the dominant social motif is American Taliban.  My PCC is my home club, Pensacola Country Club.

Jud,

I have to note that you have at least one grammatical error, which begs the question, does Jud KE?
