I've given thousands of lessons and I'm proud to say I've hooked many people on the game.   One I was particularly proud of was a lady that started at age 43 because her husband wanted her to play.  After taking lessons from me for 2 years she won her flight in the club championship.  Now she plays in the USGA Mid Am & Senior Am qualifiers every year and travels around the world with her husband playing the game!

This is always a delicate balance to brag about how great I am versus sharing information that is good for golf and the GCA board. Reality is, it is not really bragging as I am simply following the Huntley Greco Golf Model.

Many years ago I was introduced to Dr Gene at The Publik House in Southampton, NY. This is in the very early days of real information being shared on the internet and GCA.com was maybe Ran talking to his brother on here. Magazines still ruled Top 100 discussions. My new friend Dr Gene was amazed and made happy when I told him that I was dying to play this little unknown course in Nebraska, Sand Hills Golf Club! The conversation evolved and Dr Gene revealed how his courses that he really wanted to play in the USA were Merion and Augusta. When I told him that I grew up with several members of Merion from my high school golf team, and let's pick a data, I think Dr Gene made out with me at The Publik House!! Since that kiss   , Dr Gene has hosted me (and many others) so many times at a variety of places that have server farms in Australia filled with pictures from this website. He is a great friend and a generous guy.

Dr Gene led me to GCA.com before my first trip to Sand Hills, and here I am today. I "met" Ed Getka at Yale Golf Club a day or two before the first Bethpage Black US Open. Ed was my first "blind date" on GCA where I hosted someone on GCA at Yale, and we had a fabulous day. Ed then started to introduce me to the San Francisco/Northern California GCA crew. One day Tom Huckaby, my West Coast Jesuit Brother who I had never met, approaches me and asked me if I wanted to play Cypress Point Club on the Monterrey Peninsula.

Yea right!

I take one guy to Yale Golf Club and now I get to play a course that I have been dreaming about for literally 25+ years??!! My favorite access line to Yale was from a friend here who when calling Yale for a tee time was asked, "what is your Yale affiliation?" He answered, "well I was rejected by your law school twice!!" The Yale staff employee laughed and said come on up.

Certainly getting some random GCA guy onto Yale was not the reason that I was going to get a dream day at Cypress Point for me and three friends? That was when I learned about The Huntley Model of sharing golf. Bob has hosted teams from Zimbabwe/Rhodesia, local girls and guys as MPCC members, GCA guys, R&A guys.... more than I can possibly know from our now too infrequent phone calls.

Due to the nature of my new business, I barley seem to play these days, but today I am hosting a GCA friend at Yale in the Huntley Greco Golf Model.

When I was a kid I hand-raked the 19 greenside bunkers the night before both rounds of the Rolling Hills Invitational.  They generally remained unraked the other 363 days of the year.

To this day I enjoy raking a bunker.

Otherwise I think I have added to the knowledge of the early history of many golf courses, particularly in the Phila region.

I hope my biggest contribution will be to the wonderful early history of the Cobb's Creek Golf Course.  If you haven't subscribed to my Twitter feed on Cobb's , I suggest now is a good time to do so....

I never felt right about taking their money since I knew this would be a costly outlay. At the same time I had wanted to do something for junior golf, so I thought why work pro bono for a good cause. The deal was I would work for the equivilent of my standard rate and then donate it back to them for a junior golf program. No money ever changes hands, they simply commit "that amount" to developing the game the best way they see fit. Some buy clubs for kids, others introduce kids to the game and the remainder give free rounds courtesy of an unnamed donor. I've done this a few times because I believe in junior golf and the family owned golf courses as the backbone of the game.

Joe- Certainly all of the above but some fantastic photo albums as well. I have seen an awful lot of pictures of Yale and nothing matches the quality and variety from the album you compiled from your maiden visit in 2010. How many courses have you photograhed to date?

Help your local golf association, help kids learn the rules. Be a starter for local events. Volunteer to be a course rater . There are many options that will help you connect  better with the game. Philly guys GAP or Pa golf assn need folks to help out all the time .

Added bonus you will meet some great folks, I did. You will not regret a second of it.

We're a humble 9 hole course in Buckinghamshire, England. The course was built by my great grandfather in 1966 and even with advances in technology, it still provides a stern test (course record is only -3).
