Another Heathland Gem in the Making ...
« on: October 19, 2012, 02:31:48 PM »
A Surrey resident and good friend of mine recently passed along information about a potential new development: a 40 - 48 bedroom hotel and members-only golf course at the Cherkley Court estate near Leatherhead. A fair amount of local opposition to the proposed endeavor. Evidently, the estate was owned by a "Lord Beaverbrook" - so can a Beaverbrook Golf Club be far off?

Any of those local have more insight?

It's actually chalk down land rather than heath. Beautiful piece of property though. The developer is Joel Cadbury of the chocolate dynasty, and his team includes a lot of the people who worked on Queenwood. Also like Queenwood, David Kidd is designing, although they have got Tom Watson and his guys involved as codesigners.

Construction should start in January. Also, the hotel and the golf club will be separate - hotel guests will not have access to the course.

Adam/David - Thank you for the information. If nothing else, I'm guessing the clubhouse will be exceptional.
