Change of Rules for 2014!
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:34:58 AM »
Just a prediction...

I'll bet any money I have that the Ryder Cup Committee will adopt the Presidents Cup tie and tie breaker rule inside of 2 years...or something very similar.

Any takers?

Any bookies capable of handling a two year tally?

I truly believe that if Tiger made the putt on 18 and the tournament ended at 14-14 there would be endless talk about this issue and whether or not a tiebreaker should be implemented.

In the event of a 14-14 tie this weekend...what would the next half hour of television right mean for each side?

How much money do you have?

I have no clue if you're right. But,the PGA has the original article in the Ryder Cup.Making knee jerk changes to,arguably, the best spectacle in golf would seem foolish to me.

Not much! For an accurate total I'd have to check under my sofa cushions...

Okay, I'll take it - I'll bet my $3.34 (Canadian) against your $3.34 (Pennsylvanian)...it ain't going to happen.

No one cares enough just yet -- they first have to figure out how to kill/let die the President's Cup...

Each Captain should put one name in an envelope before the first round.

In the event of a tie, those envelopes are opened and a three-hole individual Cup-deciding match commences.

That's when we'd really find out who the Captains think can cut it AND who can handle the pressure.

Rather than a tie breaker the away team should be awarded the tie rather than the holders.

I think the way they do it is great. I like that you have to knock of the champ to be the champ...but...somebody has already done the calculations of having Tiger Woods on center stage for another 30 minutes at 6pm on a Sunday of the most exciting golf broadcast in years...Does anyone really think Samuel Ryder's wishes will play into a potential rule change decision?

I'll be happy to lay off some of this action as it piles up...

99% sure Tiger clinches his match if there was something still to play for.  I think Molinari would have given him the putt if he had told him to go ahead and pick up before the 2 foot miss.

I think the drama of extra holes would be pretty amazing.  Each Captain selects one player for sudden death.  Think people would watch?

Don't want to fade Peter's $3.34 all by yourself?

Just for the sake of discussion, what if each team's 12th man had to go to extra holes in the event of a 14-14 tie? Sure would have changed the Euros line-up decision!

Won't happen, but it wouold be great viewing.

If they got rid of the tie wouldn't it be slap in the face to Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin. I'm fine with a tie, it seems fair, the team who holds the cup keeps it.

No question...but more importantly, would it have changed Davis Love's?

Which bolsters Olazabal's side of the debate over conceding the last match. In many people's mind, it would have been less than a full win.

I truly believe Tiger basically clean yanked the last putt on purpose to avoid the 14-14 result, The man may be a competitor but did golf really need such dicussion etc........ just my observation... No way he EVER gives Molinari that putt under any other circumstances but this one!...

Lost Farm........ WOW!

There are three possible results in this competition. Win, draw or lose. If you bring in a tie break then you have to do it for all the matches not just the last. That would be a nightmare looking at how tight it was for many players finishing the morning match and having just minutes to be ready for the afternoon round.

It is not unusual to draw in matchplay and if you draw the honour or trophy stays where it is!
