Talked to a good friend and golfer today who had played the Annesly Links , the short course at Royal County Down recently. He said it was spectacular at around 5600 yards.

Any body aboard played it ????

I played it and really enjoyed it.
The first few holes are a bit pedestrian, but it gets into the dunes and has many interesting holes.
One of the funny things about these "short" courses is, besides many great holes, they often only have one set of tees for men which generally aren't that much shorter than the yellow visitor tees on many of the famous, highly priced courses.

It is the course I learned to play the game on. It is a really fun course even thought it is a 4600 yard par 66. The first 4 holes are solid with interesting green complex's, but are on flatter land that can get a bit boggy after rain. From the 5th onwards it is in the sand dunes and is a very 'firm and fast course. Each hole is interesting and very 'quirky'. The 6 par 3 are top-class and holes like 5, 11, 12, 13 and especially the median length par 4 8th would be stand out holes on any course. Also the view of the 10th tee is probably the best photo op. of either the the 2 RCD courses.

Overall its a underrated course and is only a 2.5 hour round. There is a few holes on the course where the fairway should be widened slightly IMO and it really only having one set of tee's doesn't account for the fact that it is played by such a wide range of players.
