Wolferts Roost
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:51:14 PM »
The Pro at my club played in a Pro am event at this club located in the Albany, NY area last week and came away very impressed.  Seems it was done by Tillinghast and though short by today's standards had in his estimation a nice mix of holes.  Anyone here know this club or have insights to share?

I actually grew up playing Wolfert's Roost. It's a fun little golf course that is much tougher than it appears on the scorecard. From the tips it's about 6100 par 70. The four par threes are really great holes and there are only two par fives and neither one is reachable in two under normal conditions. It's on a small piece of property with not much, if any, room for expansion.
I am not sure how much Tillinghast is left out there. Some of the holes seem classic Tillie while others not so much.

The last time I played there they needed to do some significant tree removal work, many of the holes are overgrown from years of overplanting.

Tom Doak has it as a 4 in his Confidential Guide and I think that's about right.
