Interesting that Pete used Carne as inspiration for Kiawah despite Kiawah opening first... :)

Uh...Carne was being built from 1985-1992, and Pete went out there while it was being built.

Also he said Portmarnock was the main inspiration.

I had never heard that Pete went to Carne as it was being built. Did he help Hackett at all that you know of?

Are you the authority on when Pete did or didn't visit the site?  He said he visited Carne and got some ideas from there.  I believe him. I'll see Pete all week - I'll ask him...

Yes, Mike, Pete did say Portmarnock was the main inspiration, but the Redan is obviously from NB.

Jay,

I just said I hadn't ever heard that Pete had ever been there and whether he had helped Hackett at all. Clearly I am not the authority. Do me a favor and don't bother Pete.

Hey Jay,

If you see Pete again can you ask him why he decided to elevate his greens so severely at Kiawah? I really can't think of any of his courses that fall off as severeely as Kiawah. Pete has great reverance for links courses and the bump and run, yet he took the ground away but raising the greens so severely on many holes. Just curious what his thought process was? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, definitley makes it harder! Maybe harder was the point!
the interviewer asked beck how he felt "being the bob dylan of the 90's" and beck quitely responded "i actually feel more like the bon jovi of the 60's"

He wanted the wind to affect shots.  He credits Ally with the idea.

Yes Sean, Ally as in Alice.   ;) ;D 8)

Jay, you lucky dog!  I'd love to be there.  Have a bowl of 'She Crab' for me!  ;D  Any chance they also gave consideration for inundation from tidal effect of a hurryacane as to why the raised greens?
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Thanks Dick, clearly I am out of the loop when it comes to Petey's travel history from the 80s and his family nicknames. Sorry.
