Even Bubba and Louis hit it in the trees on the 10th hole at Augusta.

When I see guys fold down the stretch like this, I don't know whether to be disappointed that all the guys mentioned in this thread already couldn't handle the pressure or amazed that anybody can.

Furyk's tee shot was horrible, but a to hook a sand wedge like that on 18 was really just sad.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but sometimes it makes you wonder how all these "mental coaches" are making so much money off the pro golfers...

Don't forget that Arnie hit one in pretty much the same spot in the 1966 at Olympic.

A) Maybe they are already retired if not for the mental coaches;

B) Good point about people living in glass houses...how many people have pooh-pooed what Nik Wallenda did the other night? give people a five feet-wide plank across the same parabola and they'd still brown their boxers over and over.

Here's a list of some bad finishes.  Most involve a series of bad holes.  Some reference a single shot.

An official came up to him after the tee shot on 15 about pace of play. Don't know if they were on the clock, but that may have had something to do with it.

90% of you have no idea what it is to perform an extremely difficult task under extreme pressure.  Unless you've been in that situation, then you don't know what temporal distortion can do.  The treehouse, in this case, is just ridiculous when it comes to judging someone.

Rory's shot on 10 at Augusta also appeared to be rushed.

G-Mac was very diplomatic but said the setup for 16 was basically horrible.  Said he had no idea what to do and Furyk tried to snap a 3 wood and hit it terrible.

Jim Furyk handled his defeat with grace and explained what happened well ::), taking full responsibility for not being prepared.
Practice rounds already take 6 hours.
I guess the players need to take 7 and hit tee shots from every tee on every hole...........
These guys are professionals and expect to be fully prepared for any major.

I love quirky golf courses.
I'm not sure I'm quite so enamored with quirky setups.
One wonders who they're trying to draw attention to

I don't know what was more needless, Davis' setup for Sunday or his gritted teeth when pulling the "birdman" from in front of Simpson.

I'm just surprised he didn't roll the birdman down a burnt out closely mowed area into a hazard

Furyk admitted that he should have hit 2-iron off the tee like his fellow competitor.

Do you really want to watch the best golfers in the world Ironing it off the tee at the US Open ?

Pat,

Agreed.

I enjoyed very much the setup for Thursday and Friday.  Then the musical chairs with teeing areas got to be a bit much.  Moving a tee up 100 yds on the final day of a major, causing a stretch-run par 5 to become a hybrid or long iron off the tee for most players is laughable.  I was stunned when I heard it was playing at 570 today.

I was beginning to think I was the only one to notice his gritted teeth. I guess not.

Oh, but to answer the question, the setup.

Uh-oh.  Better call Maaco!

I wasn't there today but I know where that tee is.  For me the tee is fine. I don't hit it out of my shadow.  But for these guys they have to hit a rope hook.  I think the set up at 16 was not well thought out.  Mike Davis said earlier in the week that they might move the tee up to let the guys give it a go in two.  Nobody did today.  They needed to use a different tee box.

I will repeat myself from another thread. I was standing on that tee for quite some time today:

One thing Johnny Miller did not mention about Furyk's shot on #16 is that the USGA placed the tee almost where we play from the whites. Because the fairway was narrowed and brought in from the tree line on the right, you need to pinwheel one around the corner to find fairway - or find your ball in the deepest grass on the course. The dreaded "straight ball" is death because there is no angle off the tee from there and the box sets the players up straight at trouble.

Did the USGA tell the players that they might at any point use that tee?
