I am in full pre-Bandon distraction mode.  I arrive a week from this Sunday, on May 6.  Playing the Preserve on Monday, after a round at BD.  Have not yet been.  Have read Dream Golf Expanded and spent hours looking at photos and reading accounts of the Bandon experience.  It is the one golf destination (I guess I'll have to find another now) that I really have felt is overdue on my travels.  In some ways, I guess it's worked out, since I'll now be able to play all five courses on my first trip.

Thanks to all the folks who have made Bandon a shrine - I can't wait.

Tom - Have a great trip!  Bandon is such a special place.  Please post your thoughts upon your return.

Matthew - Are many of the tees elevated?  How much elevation does the property generally have?  How close is the course to the ocean?  How many ocean views do you get?  Are there multiple tee boxes to play from, offering different angles?  If not, as mentioned earlier, I fear the tee boxes will then take a decent beating.

Yes. There is probably about 100 feet from #1 tee to #6 hole. It gets as close to the ocean as the 17th green at Bandon dunes. You can see the ocean on most of the holes. You only have spectacular views from the half way house and west of it. yes, tons and tons of tee boxes. On most of the holes, different angles are given; however on a few holes, the tees are just in a column. Yes the tee boxes will be incredibly beat up, but that is the major reason for all of the tees.

Did anyone else lose the Photobucket photos? I think we need to chip in and buy Matt a PRO account.

How bout that 7th green!? I have to admit, I underestimated this course. I'm kicking myself for not at least walking it when I out in Bandon last fall.

Could this be the best par 3 facility anywhere?

Matthew;

It was a golf course opening consistent with the others at the resort....friendly, low key, comfortable; Mr. Keiser and Bill Coore were there to greet each guest, with Wood Sabold there to photograph the occasion.  The first group out was the same group that has started ALL 4 of the other course openings here! Others there included Dave Zinkand, who was the day to day architect/builder for C&C, "Shoe" Gaspar,  Bandon GM Hank Hickox, Gary Binder from Kemper Sports, Ken Nice for a second or two, and others that came and went.

We had a shower early, but by the first group the sun was out, and in general the weather was open and sunny, though cool.  Perfect Bandon golf conditions!

All good!

Did they put up a starter shack? Or do you just check in at the Bandon Trails clubhouse and then at the Bandon Trails starter shack?

Who has the course record after one day?

Golfers check in at the Trails golf shop, and then at the Preserve starter bldg, similar to the other courses.  The new building is directly behind the first tee at the Preserve, and is landscaped in native plants, with a sign noting the Silvery Phacelia plants that have been transplanted there.
Additionally, the snack bar/restroom out in the middle of the course is landscaped with transplanted natives, part of the ecological restoration work that will wind throughout the course routing.

Golf Magazine's Eamon Lynch reported on the opening day at Bandon Preserve.

Lynch also raced in playing the 1st hole with Chris Smith, who holds the world record at speed golf.  Smith played the course in 23 minutes in an even-par 39.

Michael,

Thanks for the photo tour.  It looks fantastic and from what I can tell you have done a great job of capturing some of the features of the course.
