Here are some images from the 1952 Masters. I took my best guess at the location of some of the images. Enjoy!

Dean,

Good find!!
The 12th green looks like it has more back-to-front slope than the current version.

Notice the complete lack of trees!!  Look at #7, behind #6 tee, around the #6 green, around #4 green, etc.

Look at the picture of the player hitting a second shot on #2 and the ahem second-cut.  That ball is sitting down nicely.

Great photos!!  Sure would be neat to see the tournament again with that "rough around the edges" look.  I for one, love that place.

Also, how come we cannot get some good quality shoes like those players are wearing anymore!

Dean,
Nice photos, thanks.

I saw the barbed wire fence and thought you snuck a Van Cortlandt pic in the mix.

Great pictures. Course looks much different and some how fresher back then compared to now.

Dean:

The picture you labeled  ???  is the 12th green, viewed from a bit to the left of the line of play, before you get onto the bridge.

I have never seen a picture of it from that era.  Looks a bit different than today, huh?

Thanks for these.  The pictures of the bridges made me smile.

I'm not convinced the picture labeled #7 isn't 17.
The trees in the background look really close (they would be just right of 18 tee)

If I'm wrong that would be #3 tee on the far left (which hasn't moved much over the years)

Thanks once again Dean.

Yes the bridges are classic! The corrugated iron under the one and the, to this untrained eye, quaint structure of the other are wonderful to behold. Good stuff and once again the crowds seemingly milling around the course with ease. Halcyon days!

Thanks for all the comments. I’m lucky to find them and happy to post them.

Below are some images from the 1961 Masters Tournament. Again, I’m using my best guess for the locations of the images. Enjoy.

Player hitting approach to green (I think the 1st)

The “normally reserved Augusta crowds” moving in to catch a view. Is the ball on the ground yet?

Second shot on #2. Trying to hit a draw maybe?

Pitch shot to green on #2.

#6 sans water.

Approach shot to #9.

Approach shot to #10.

#11

#12 with Hogan Bridge.

#12 close-up.

Player on #13 in near the same spot that Mickelson was in 2010 and dressed in all black.

#13 green.

#15

#16 viewed from #6 tee.

Arnold looks like he just double-bogeyed the 18th hole to lose the event ... check out his expression in both the pictures.

Player got up and down for par on 18 while Palmer made six from the sand.  If that third-to-last picture is his bunker shot on 18, that bunker was sure different years ago than it is now.  [Look at the grass on the edge of it!]

Notice the wide variety of finishing poses by Gary Player.  Remarkable.  He clearly appears to be working shots in both directions.  However, a southern California pro, Bill Feil, who caddied for Player once at the L.A. Open, told me he played a draw almost exclusively.  He also said that Player took mental notes during a practice round, explained in detail to Feil he would play Riviera that week, and then executed to near perfection, finishing second.

Yes, and I'm estimating the bunkers must be 4-6 feet deeper on average, nowadays.

One more.  I like the deep rough long and left on #12, and believe that would be an improvement over the azaleas.

12th green looks far more propped up with the creek narrower, but probably deeper.

I do believe I see a cancer stick hanging from the fingers of young Jack Nicklaus.
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

rakes?
Observation platforms?

There are fewer azaleas(some in the woods on 13), but the dogwoods are blooming.

No logos on players?

I'll guess azaleas.  However, it appears there are several large flowering trees in bloom.

Flowers and flowering shrubs (not trees)

The landscape is void of them, yet, the B&W photos remain very attractive, conveying a course in the pines.

Michael Dugger,

The cameras rarely showed Arnie or Jack smoking a cigarette and Arnie was a heavy smoker on the golf course.

In those days, the media protected images, today, they look to tear them down vis a vis "gotcha" moments.
In the 50's and early 60's there wasn't the overwhelming statistical and scientific evidence indicating how unhealthy smoking was, whereas today, anyone who smokes has to know that they're playing Russian Roulette with their health and lives.

Look at the ash tray in the 2nd picture.

Dean,

Great photos

Kalen,

If you'll look carefully, and with your reading glasses on, you'll note that the photos of #12 in the 50's and 60's don't reveal much in the way of change.

Also note the juxtaposition of the fronting bunker with Rae's Creek.

Now, fast forward and consider all the development that occured from 1961 and the impact on runoff water and the level of Rae's Creek.

Not only was the bunker flooded, but the green as well and that's why everything was raised.

You have so much to learn and I can only allot so much time
