Chris,

The way he tells it now, he gave you the golden read that won you a club championship on the 18th green ;D

From memory, it was downhill, about 15ft and breaking to the right.. his read was perfect, your stroke likewise and the rest is history!

12 greens seeded and growing.  check.

6-7 fairways seeded and growing.  check

Main well almost complete.  Proud of the innovation and adaptation on the fly.

Schneider on the road home to be a Dad.  Mahaffey heading back soon.  Think the Chef will be pleased.

Great progress given we have had no rain in 6 weeks and considerable wind.

She's coming to life, and is astounding.

Did a bit of product testing yesterday with Darin Erstad.  He flew #5 green with a 3 iron.  265 yard carry.  Love the bat speed.

With all the anticipation on GCA over the 5th major in 2 weeks, thought it would be a good idea to post some proper pictures of the progress... your camera phones dont do justice to all the hard work the team has been putting in the last few weeks. (We logged 82-85 hrs this week)

Mulching #1 at about 8:30pm

#3

seeding #4 green

the full team working another late night on #4 fairway

finishing #5 with a view down #6

#6 green from left

#7 pre seed

#8 green

... Let the comments and questions commence!

Jaeger,

I'm impressed, and jealous my friend.  The coverage looks great.  Why so much mulch in the bunkers on #8?  #7 looks so different from last year!  But I think I have the first birdie on 7.   ;D

Hopefully I'll get to join you guys this year at some point.  Be safe out there brosef.

ben - the green bunker on #8... Mostly due to the wind. We were not 100% satisfied with the coverage we got via our hose, so I gave it a once over with the gun on top our 4000 gallon monster, and the wind whipped a lot of the mist in the direction of that bunker.

... maybe see you soon, if I'm not in Asia when you are here

Is this Dismal or an outtake from Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

I hope some of you constructors have a HD video camera to document some of this work!  Not that you have much else to do these long summer days in the sand hills.... ::)

I'm sure if you take lots of video footage, that there are some very clever participants here on GCA that could edit it with music background sound and make a documentary sort of geek video that would sell like hotcakes to GCA types.

What about making a DVD and sell it for a fund raiser effort for a charity, or even commercially for the club to just defray contruction costs?
Whatever the cost would be applied to, I have to believe many copies would be purchased.

I just think that what great photos we already see from those sharing them, that this process is too cool to allow to pass up without further HD dvd documentation.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

This place needs to be seen, I might be in the minority but the holes across the road are better than the ones on the side with the Nicklaus.

Sam, I'm with you.

The first 8 holes are going to be crazy good, but the last 10 shift to another level.

Sam - I also agree..  I think the holes down near the river have the potential to be world-class.

Stu Pospisil does a fantastic job covering golf along side all his other duties at a small paper. I have enjoyed reading his reviews every since my first visit to the region. He is an example of what is sadly becoming a lost profession in the modern age.

Well written for sure.
He even included some business details that matter....
Nice work Don.

"The Red will be watered with 1,100 irrigation heads, less than half what was required for the White Course even with super-wide fairways. Don Mahaffey, a course superintendent in Texas, designed the watering system that is being hailed as a prototype for building cheaper and more efficient irrigation. The fairways are the same fescue grass as on the White Course, but the new course uses a different strain of bentgrass."

Does this mean the Red will use less than half as much water as the White?

Less water - yep!  Less energy too.

Don and Tom did some very innovative things with the irrigation that Don can explain better if he wishes.  One of the cool things is both courses are tied together providing necessary irrigation redundancy, rather than each having their own backup system.

The look of the Red course will be classic with all of green, yellow, and brown.

The reception thus far has exceeded expectations and we have a long way to go to maturity.
