What would be the top three courses in the Palm Springs/La Quinta area private or public...courses that are truly worth the visit?

Stone Eagle would be at the top of my wish list...

I'm a little partial since I worked there during construction but I would recomend the Madison Club.

On the public side, the two courses at Terra Lago aren't bad, and the Marriott Shadow Ridge course is decent.

All three of those are desert oasis-type courses, but Terra Lago has a couple holes that bleed into the desert rock formations.  All three are also Schmidt-Curley with a bit of Faldo at the Marriott.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

I have heard nothing but good things about the Madison Club.  Have played Plantation, the Palms, and the Tradition which are all very good.  Tough to go wrong with any of those.  Stone Eagle would be top of my list of places I have not played in the desert.

Sunnylands in Ranch Mirage was recently renovated by Jackson Kahn Design and would definately be worth playing.  The before and after pictures look great!

If you have not been - I would recommend Stadium course @ PGA West - Pete Dye at his sadistic best.

The courses at Desert Willow we're very good - not sure how the redo at Indian Wells Golf Resort went.

Enjoyed the courses at Terra Largo but that was a while ago before new ownership.

Great place to visit this time of year.

The weather out here right now is just fantastic.

Private:
Stone Eagle, the best by far, no question about it.
Madison Club
Bighorn Canyons
Tradition
Plantation
Quarry
Ironwood South

A lot of them are very high end but have boring golf courses.

Public:
Indian Wells Golf Resort (players)
Shadowridge Golf Resort
La Quinta Mountain
Terra Lago
PGA West Stadium
Desert Dunes, probably the best bang for you buck in the valley, but beware of a windy day now.
