I could see myself topping one into the pond on the 15th at Augusta.

Edit: Just re-read that it was greatest hazard to lose a ball. For the straight 'greatest hazard'..

"to which lose a ball"? Is this what passes for grammer in Kentucky these days?    ;)

I can think of hole or two that I haven't played (yet) that would provide a nice challenge and potentially lost ball into the Pacific Ocean. Besides that, though, I, along with 30,000 or so other people each year, have contributed my share of golf balls to Lake Coeur d'Alene.

CPC #16.  I've failed four times.   $15 of Pro V1s but it's okay.

I put a ball in the Pacific off the coast of Lanai. Should have the opportunity to lose one off Monterey this summer. Hopefully I fail.

The greatest hazard to lose a ball in has to be one where you have a decision as to whether or not to play it as it lies.  Therefore a crater on the moon is an infinitely better hazard than the Pacific.

The question specifies that you "lose" the ball. That being the case, how do you get to play it where it lies?

A much better q would be which hazard to get up and down out of.

Adam,

This is the first year I have played with personalized golf balls which has made me much more aware of my deposits.  I just feel that there are certain hazards to which I offer my ball as a tribute to the fine golfers who were there before me and then there are quarry holes in Indiana.  A lost ball is not always a lost ball.

Good luck today.

Naturally the unwashed will pick the ocean at Pebble Beach or or the 12th at Augusta Nat'l, then there are those enlightened ones who will choose the 16th at Cypress, but the the true cognescenti will choose the 1st at Machrihanish.

It all depends how the ball is personalized. Such as these I bought my dad...

John, you beat me to it! I'm going to give Machrihanish a go this August... I hope I DON'T lose my ball on the 1st!!!

mine is either the first on the Old Course, or the 18th at Carnoustie.   When the tide is retreating it's easy to lose a ball (as it is swept towards St Andrews Bay.  And at  Carnoustie, when you hit the hazard you become a part of history.

Howard,
A friend in the USA gifted me a couple of dozen monogrammed Titleists imprinted with CLMACQUEEN as the banner. I lost them all in the ensuing weeks  "....offered up as a tribute..." to The Gods of Gowf.

A few went to a watery grave but most the way of all lost golf balls..........just disappeared. My better half, Tricia, was incensed that club members did not return aforementioned balls to their rightful owner. I patiently explained to her that many of these balls were resting where intrepid golfers fear to tread. Tricia has an innocent faith in my ability to play this game. She was pleased when I discovered a couple of 'em in the second-hand golf ball barrel at the club pro shop but her disgust was palpable upon learning that I had to buy them back! The young lads in the pro shop took great delight in winkling five dollars out of the Scotsman for golf balls which were obviously his!

Cheers Colin

The one hole I've played where the Pacific was in play (#18, Half Moon Bay--Old), I lost my ball to it and still smiled.  So I'll say that's the one for me.

Does McKee's Pub count as a hazard on #1 at Bandon Dunes? Safe to say I left my mark there once....

Amongst the church pews at Oakmont.  A holy grave for any ball no matter the denomination.

I dunno about you guys but I try not to hit it in any great hazard. I'd rather tell someone that I made 2 on 12 at Augusta, not that I put one in Rae's Creek.
