I was fortunate today to visit Parkland G&CC near Boca Raton, FL (a Greg Norman design). Looking at the approach on the 12th, I found it quite similar to the approach to the Road Hole at TOC. The tee shot, especially from the back tees (which unfortunately I don't have a picture of) is of reasonable similarity to the one at TOC, except there's no hotel and the OB is water.
It wasn't until I saw the darker, firm, crushed sand used over the green (the only place on the entire golf course) that I was convinced Norman was trying to recreate the road hole. I suspect the members would not support/understand an actual road being built just over the green, and rock hard sand is a reasonably recreation for the playing surface.
What do you think, is this Norman's tribute to the Road Hole?
Tee Shot: Diagonal over hazard; left leaves really difficult approach angle to green
Approach: Bunker is placed exactly same place as road hole bunker
Green from back-left: Very similar green shape to TOC
From over green: Crushed sand mimics playing surface of the road
