Jon

You make it sound like you're barred from the country, surely you can sneak back in for a game ! How are things going on the new course ?

Niall

Do you mean me?

Actually I was referring to the other "Jon", Jonathon Davison, but while your on, its about time we had an update (with photos) on how your course is going. BTW, are we going to get a game this year ?

Hi Niall,

I am working on the update (with photos) which should be posted soon. Yes, we must get a game in this year, which course are you a member at?

Any drive up north from that area would make stop off in the Lakes District and Windemere GC.

Niall,
Not barred from the country just busy at the moment, would love some time to come and play Carlisle. I was even thinking about joining Silloth as a overseas member as its close to my parents.
We should start construction on the project in March, weather is extremely mild at the moment so we may get an earlier start. I will keep posting some pictures once we get going.

I used to live in Carlisle, so I agree with Niall.

Carlisle, Penrith both decent. Brampton also not bad and not far off the path.

Silloth very good (best of those discussed here), but a bit further out of the way again.

Martin

Did you ever play Stoneyholme while living at Carlisle ? For an inland muni its a hoot and great value also, particularly if you don't mind the rubbish tees. I'd a regular game there on a tuesday night with a group from the pub and the course together with the crack with the boys just about made it worth missing a round at Silloth.

Niall

Yes I did, and it was pleasantly surprising. Of course I didn't have the same crack from the boys, which might be the magic ingredient that took it over the top!

I also played Eden a couple of times, but I couldn't change my opinion that each visit was a largely forgettable experience.

I was a member at Eden the first year I moved down there simply because I could join immediately with little joining fee. If only I'd known I could have got into Silloth almost as quickly. A year wasted really. Eden was OK for a knock but as you say largely forgettable so much so that I couldn't summon any enthusiasm to go back for a visit when they built a 3rd nine after I left.

Jon

Look forward to seeing the photos. Is Mick going to be working on this project ?

The links at Southerness is worth considering as well, an hour from Gretna, northwest of Carlisle.
