This year. Official announcement tomorrow but it's being widely trailed, including by Sky http://www1.skysports.com/golf/news/12230/7413046/Portrush-to-stage-Irish-Open

Great news. Let's hope it stays there for a good few years.

This has been one of the strangest on/off announcements  I've ever seen so I wouldn't take it as a given until tomorrow...

Run-up to Christmas: European Tour announce they will be taking the Irish Open back to Dublin area. Rumours centre around Killeen Castle, Carton House and Portmarnock. Nothing official announced

December 20th: All news stories report that Carton House will be the venue with official announcement later that day. Announcement never comes

January 5th: European Tour set to make an announcement on January 6th from Portrush... Seeing as Portrush was scheduled for 2013, this could possibly just be the venue for an announcement for the next 2 years?... Maybe?... Either way, the news stories were wrong before Christmas so I'd wait for final confirmation tomorrow...

Ally - I don't think the Beeb, Sky and other news outlets, plus Clarke and McDowell at least on Twitter (I haven't seen anything from Rory) would be going on the record unless it was a done deal. I agree it's a surprise given the talk about Carton House - I assume the NI Executive have ponied up some cash and that sponsors were proving hard to find in the Republic.

Taking Ally's point about rumours and European Tour, have you heard anythign definitie about the Scottish Open. I know they say its definitely going back to Castle Stuart but until they get a sponsor I have my doubts.

Adam,

I'm sure it is going to Portrush... but RTE and all news outlets in Ireland went on the record about Carton House...

Here's hoping for Portrush anyway... Very good news
