O/T Number of Posts
« on: December 29, 2011, 11:03:48 PM »
I have never looked or bothered about the number below my name regarding posts. However, I now know that I have been stuck at 5481 posts for many a year and wondered what happened to the count. Any ideas?

Bob,

I just made three posts and my overall number didn't budge either. Once a Jr. member always a Jr. member.

Oh well, Tant pis pour nous, I guess.

Alas, when this O/T thread is deleted, he'll be back to 5,481.

What a pity.

My guess is the moderators took the counter in for a thorough overhaul after Tom Paul left the site.

I am guessing that Bob looked around for other posts of his and found they all had the same number. Therefore, he concluded that his number wasn't changing, while in fact it always changes. The number seen on a post is not the post number you have made when you made that post, but the number of posts you have made overall. It's just a bit of global information that is stored and displayed on your posts just like your name. If you change your name (as Dave Schmidt is wont to do), it too will change on all your posts, and all your PM, etc.
