Which courses would you like to see profiled in 2012?
« on: December 21, 2011, 06:37:11 AM »
We have a number of very skilled commentators on this site who contribute excellent photo tours.  Where would you like to see them visit next year? Here are some of my thoughts:

Scotland: Southerness, Western Gailes, Boat of Garten, Scotscraig, Ladybank, Moray.
England: Aldeburgh, Ipswich, Sheringham, Seacroft, York, Fulford, Frilford Heath, Parkstone, West Cornwall, North Foreland, North Hants, Lindrick.
Wales: Southerndown, Pyle and Kenfig, Welshpool, Llandrindod Wells.
N Ireland: Ardglass, Portstewart, Belvoir Park.
Republic of Ireland: Grange, Hermitage, Tramore, Cork
Belgium: All the Royal courses except Waterloo
Denmark: Copenhagen, Rungsted
Sweden: Halmstad, Stockholm, Falsterbo
Netherlands: Hilversum, De Pan, Kennemer,
France: St Cloud, Monte Carlo,
Germany: Bad Ems, Krefeld
Italy: Roma plus all the Gannon courses.

Off you go Ran, Sean, Brian and the rest! There's no time to lose!

Mark,

A few of those have been profiled already I think, but nothing wrong with getting plenty more photo tours out there! Looks like the search database is having an off day though...  ::)

Here is my tour of Lindrick from a few years ago:
http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,35782.0.html

I've got a load of photos from Boat of Garten, from which I've started drafting a tour but the pics are so poor due to the weather, I keep hesitating in finishing it.

Here is Ben Stephens tour of Seacroft:
http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=60b69611a7bd6466ac9584cfe12ddf6e&topic=42120.0.

Again, there might be a tour out there already, but I'd like to see The Machrie, Machrihanish, Machrihanish Dunes, Glencruitten and Shiskine, mainly as I've hoped to head that way for a couple of years and would like to see what I'm missing.

I'd like to see Southport & Ainsdale profiled, and I hope to head that way myself.

Cheers,

James

2023 Highlights: Hollinwell, Brora, Parkstone, Cavendish, Hallamshire, Sandmoor, Moortown, Elie, Crail, St Andrews (Himalayas & Eden), Chantilly, M, Hardelot Les Pins

Excellent thread. Being too lazy to do it myself, others in this part of Scotland that I would nominate for a photo tour would be Elgin and Duff House Royal. Elsewhere in Scotland I would nominate Gullane 2 and 3, often mentioned but seldom seen. Southerness - a greatly under rated links in my opinion although being a relatively flat one it may take  amster craftsman like Aidan Bradley to make it look as good as it undoubtedly is.

How about Peninsula CC in San Francisco area?  Donald Ross only west coast course and I don't know much about it.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Tim, Good for you, getting the list of American courses under way.

Niall, I'm glad you are a kindred spirit concerning Southerness. I'm not sure it's under-rated so much as utterly unknown. It's not on the way to or from anywhere. I played it as a lad with my father in the days before it had a clubhouse and you paid your green fee at the Paul Jones Hotel (the order of the holes was different then). Given the Paul Jones link shouldn't our American friends beat a track to its door (along with Bridlington). But I have hope. Silloth-on-Solway will host next year's BUDA. Perhaps some of those attending might row across the Solway Firth to Southerness!

Considering that San Francisco and Olympic have no profiles, and Pebble Beach was written 50 years ago, I think a course like Peninsula would take a back seat.

I'm told Ran is visiting Scotland next year so I suspect we'll see a number of courses from there.

For some reason, the search function for the website is currently down but I have posted some nice photos of Belvedere ....thread called "some photo highlights of my trip to Belvedere".

I'll post the proper link ASAP.

Best wishes,

Bart

Is Mark Saltzman globe trotting again next year? Maybe he'll let us use this thread as his makeshift itinerary.

I'm looking forward to Cabot Links and Streamsong pics. And I don't think we'll ever tire of more pics of Pinehurst #2.

I would love to do a brief profile/photo tour of Belvedere Tom. My Dad beat Steve Maddalena there in the 1983 state amateur to advance to the "sweet sixteen". Every summer we'd rent a cottage on Lake Charlevoix and play Belvedere every morning at sunrise. My Dad knows the course like the back of his hand, as well as the history of how it came to be such a great track. I have countless old pictures of the course, including pictures of my Dad, Grandpa, and Tom Watson playing the course back in the 80's. They said Tom absolutely loved Belvedere and came to play it often.

Good call!

I would be interested in submitting a profile of ArborLinks in Nebraska City, NE. It was converted to a private destination club in 2006 that I feel is operating on a quiet profile and has not been featured amongst other NE-based lay-outs.

I promise I'll do Rungsted in the spring and maybe also Copenhagen if i get to go there with a camera. I have some (actually quite a few) pictures from Ardglass but i think i miss half the course.
