Most of these houses are stupidly ott.  I prefer a bit more modesty in my friends and clubs.

I like the use of flags at several of the clubhouses. Aesthetically pleasing and gives a general sense of wind conditions.

I'm  a fan of public clocks which none of these clubhouses include.

The first picture of Sunningdale has a clock!

I stand corrected! I like the clocks at Suningdale, R&A, Troon, Muirfield, and Royal Birkdale.  The stand alone clock at Palmetto is also nice. I think I saw a similar one at Kinloch and I know the Foundry in Virginia has a similar clock in front of the clubhouse by the practice putting green.

Some of my favorites....

Old..... Palmetto, the other one by Stanford White.

New... Chechessee  Creek, fits very well into the surroundings, well situated for course and range, every square foot in the clubhouse is used, every space feeds into the other, simple furnishings.

Crystal Downs, like Chechessee, a well planned clubhouse, exposed timbers, great views, spartan furnishings but well appointed.  Having said that, the golf shop / snack bar is just about perfect in planning and location.  Only has one small shower,  but after you step back out of the shop,  you are back outside looking around, and could care less.  Why waste time showering at CD ?

Wow Mid Pines looks like a hospital!

That's because it's a resort hotel rather than a clubhouse.  Very good golf course, not overwhelmed by the hotel.

The coolest clubhouse I have seen outside the US was at Leopard Creek.  Anyone have any photos?

Most of these clubhouses look really cool but I guess I will be the first to wonder what could be done for the budget with more simplified clubhouses.

To be honest, most of these clubhouses really don't do it for me as I prefer smaller subtle ones, which would then for me be tricky to call iconic? I do though like the New Zealand clubhouse posted by Sean and Ben's picture of Royal Birkdale. Another I like, though I've not played the course, is Kennemer...

Wish I had a picture of Kennemer!  Anyone?  Anyone?

Cheers,

James

A few clocks:

Bay Hill

Sea Island

And a few clubhouses perched on a hill

Sankaty Head

Ciao

That or ballyneal are the only two I like.

Palmetto perhaps if something useable was actually in the clubhouse (dormy rooms and bar perhaps ;))

The Valley Club, think the clubhouse architecture matches the quality of the course.
