A late addition to my highlights is the new Tom Doak course to be built not to far north of Auckland.

Ash

Highlight of 2011 was breaking 80 for the first time at Pram Beach.  Even better it was in the company of GCAer Sev Keil.  Also enjoyed teeing it up with Mark Chaplin locally but halving after dormy 2 would be a lowlight!!  The consumption of Kummell later in the night for the first time dulled the pain.

Most looking forward to in 2012?  Perhaps teeing it up with Ash Towe

Merry Christmas

Surely some mistake?
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Ash...great stuff.  I don't know the details behind your wife's ailments, but I am glad things are returing to normal.  Nothing grounds you like the loss of your health.

The highlight of my year revovles around the community and welcoming nature of golf and, more specifically, GCA.com.  I won't bore y'all again with the details, as I did it in the 2011-The best year of my life thread.  But the sense of community here is incredible.  Thanks!!

My highlight was almost being able to play with Mac ;)  I made the cut until the very last minute when he realized that I was not worth the issues that he was probably creating with the wife - don't worry Mac, you made the right choice. ; ;D

Honest personal golf highlights (excluding that absolute thrill it is for me to see my father and sons golf together on a weekly basis at our local club - while I work):

1.  Becoming involved with gca and getting to know some great people.  A year ago I was all about playing great courses, now I am all about meeting great people that share my love of the game.
2.  Taking group of 28 guys (none of whom had been there) to Bandon for a week.  Having the group buy my wife and I a weekend at Pinehurst as a thank you gift - which stopped her complaining about the amount of time I spend on golf.
3.  Playing at the Dunes with the Judge and Franklin.  Terry - you were a fantastic host, I only wish that I could have bev'd it up with you.   Jim - hope the Canes end up as good as the Buckeyes - who get into trouble with the NCAA and end up with Urban Meyer.
4.  Weekend at Pete Dye GC in West Va - my favorite Dye course other than Ocean.

I spent the spring and summer working on the restoration of Highlands Links. I have the sore muscles to prove that I have a lot of personal sweat equity in that projects as we do most work with existing materials and only the help of a backhoe. It's been fun to go old school.

I spent the fall on a complete rebuild of the second course at Laval-sur-le-lac with Mike Weir. This course is tentatively expected to hold the 2017 Canadian Open. The design has a clear nod to the courses of Melbourne in its approach and character.

It was all I could have asked for.

I'll spend next spring and summer finishing both up.

Michael...you made the "cut" in spades.  Sometimes a man got to choose between golf and divorce.  Usually a close call, but marriage won this time!! :D

Delighted one of my highlights formed part of a mates lowlight!!

I only spent five days in New Zealand but packed in Royal Welly, Pram Beach, Kinloch and Wairakei, dinner with a great bunch of Pram members and late breakfast with Jamie Patton. I stayed with a great friend who is lucky enough to be a Pram/Deal member and owns a great beach house a couple of clicks from the course.

My biggest laugh came with the reply from Goldy and Jamie when I explained that I couldn't fit in a final early game at PB before flying to Melbourne as it would mean I'd have played everyday for 12 days.  After their epic 2010 unsurprisingly they had little sympathy!

What I'm trying to say is if you have any chance of attending Boomerang 2012 don't miss out. The experience of NZ is magestic at every level, they even like Kümmel  ;D

Watching my son develop into a good junior player while learning to respect the game and it`s traditions. The bond that we have developed through this greatest of games is very special. He is starting to realize what a day with good friends at a great golf course truly means and that it is about far more than the shots that are hit or the scores that are posted.

The friendships and sense of community on GCA are beyond what I could have imagined for all the time I lurked before requesting a sign on from Ran. I counted fifteen days that included golf with GCA`ers  at courses like Merion East and West, Bethpage Black, Eastward Ho, Kittanset, Yale, St. Georges, Paramount,Huntington CC and Copake. Every round was special as well as the friendships made and the time spent. Thank You to everyone who contributed to making 2011 a great year.
