Wooden golf tees

I’ve never paid much attention to the wooden golf tees provided by courses.  That is, until I played at Sankaty Head Golf Course on Nantucket over Thanksgiving week.

As you can see, the tee’s design is inspired by the Sankaty Head Lighthouse, which is adjacent to the par 4, fifth hole. The lighthouse is located on the left side of the fairway about 180 yards from the back tees; about 10 yards back from the fence line. Incidentally, the lighthouse was recently (October 2007) moved away from an eroding bluff, approximately 400 feet – bringing it closer to the course.

Are there any other notable, unique golf tees that are inspired by the course and/or its surrounds?

I have come across a few tees promoting Guinness stout that I really like. They are dark brown with a tan top and look like a pint of that wonderful brew.

That's great.  I know use the Epoch tees as they dont break easily so they last rounds.  Not sure the environmental or course benefits if any.  So I have played where the club logo is on the pedestal where the ball sits but doesn't compare to that.

Tees are about £2 for 20 in the UK, I guess that's why our subscriptions are 1/10th of the US price.  ;)

I actually think having to pay for tees would be good for mower blades.

How to Make Tees Last More or Less Forever:

Buy these:

Of course, the top half shears right off -- unless you are willing to ...

Bite off the bottom half of the pointed end, between a pair of your molars. (That's why God gave you teeth.)

Push the tee into the ground. Wiggle it a bit.

Hit your shot, and that tee will pop right out of the ground and fall harmlessly to earth, pretty as you please.

And if there's a nuke cooling tower nearby ... it's almost like that lighthouse tee!

Somebody at my home club thought that it would be helpful if players could throw their broken tees into a bin or some other container at the tee. A large hole of 2 inches diameter was drilled in one of the tee markers on each tee, and naturally enough players started to throw their broken tees into the hole in the tee marker. I assumed it was the head greenkeeper's idea.

One morning I was out playing and bumped into the head greenkeeper as he was changing the position of the tee markers. He picked up the tee marker full of tees and said "I don't know why people keep filling these tee markers with broken tees" and proceeded to toss the lot into the rough next to the the teeing area.

Yes, they rebuilt the caddie camp building and cabins, which are located between the 11th and 12th holes.

Our wooden tees are free at my club. I have not seen anything as cool at the lighthouse. I do like a deep brown stain on my tee as opposed to the white painted ones. Naturally many of us love places like Cypress who print the club name on the tee and ball mark.
