If Paa-Ko makes it, then Black Mesa should make it too. I do think Paa-Ko has to be up there, even if they have raised the fees a bit.

The best bang for buck I know of in the States is Lakewood Shores Gailes - 2nd is the UofM course - 3rd is Lederach.

While I'd certainly agree, since one has to be connected to the University in some way to gain access, I'm not sure Michigan would qualify as being truly public for the purposes of this list.

The Mines, in Grand Rapids, by Mike Devries.  

More architecture per dollar than any golf course I've ever played.  A value at twice the price -- at least.

I'm surprised to see Palouse Ridge on there.  Its a good value, but Wine Valley is a far better course and in prime season only $10-15 more to play.

Fair enough. I find it hard to believe anything over $100 (or for the top ten maybe even $50) is one of the best values in the country, but I'm not familiar enough with either of those examples to know whether I'd include them. Sultan's Run and Rock Hollow in Indiana are both less than $50 and would be "better deals" than Paa-Ko IMO.

While I am not from MN, I do visit my daughter who teaches at Carleton College in Northfield.  I have played Willingers a half-dozen times and found it to be great fun.  It may not be a great course but it is certainly a lot of bang for the buck.

What about Pinon Hills in NM?  10 years ago or so, that was often cited as one of or the best value going.

Pinon Hills' prices have gone up some, especially for non-locals. Still a great deal if you can get there, but I think that Rock Hollow and Sultan's Run in Indiana are better golf courses at comparable prices.

Oak Hollow in High Point NC, should be considered. It is a very good Pete Dye design that is 17 dollars to walk. When I was in school, almost 20 years ago, replays were free.

That's why i was wondering what qualified as the money index. I can think of courses that I would pay a nice sum of money to play but I wouldn't pay a dime for others.

As far as Minnesota goes, it's hard to beat Keller Golf Course for $35 walking (max rate).

I've played Willingers at the $35 afternoon senior rate. That is a good deal. No diatribe here.
