Not any on good sites... Because by bulldozing them you are already putting yourself at a disadvantage...

There are plenty of examples on average sites...

...

I hear Cruden Bay could use a few nips a tucks. Removing the sidewalls to the bathtub green, straightening and removing blindness from the dogleg par 3, etc.

The one and only Satin Bug, The Seventh among the Angles Angels, The Young Pretender, fake to its core, golf's Deadly Sin known by its name ‘The Castle Course’. Are we certain it’s not a Trump development?

I asked Rees Jones about Cruden Bay, and that's what he said. Don't shoot the messenger. Are you saying you know better than someone involved in Golf Architecture for a lifetime?

Looking at today’s standards then I must say Anthony is right and  Rees is out of touch - but then is that not the problem with today’s game and course. Hell nothing is 100% perfect, not EVEN ME, although I am close at 99.99% ;)

I would like to see old Head bulldozed and put back to what it should be.  Same for Trump Aberdeen.  As far as trying to improve the course, my vote is for Hillside.  That property is awesome and the course doesn't do it any sort of justice.

Really? Even if a dramatic improvement could be made?

I'd like to bulldoze Trump LA.

Alex -

If the question is keepng or eliminating a gc, them I'm for keeping it, however bad it is.

It's a different - and easier - question to ask if there are courses that could be improved by taking them back down to the dirt.

why?  10 years ago I thought the course was very good, I prefer the first five and last 4 holes.

Many times changing existing maintenance practice could turn a course you might like to bulldoze into one that you might like. The obvious example is courses where there has been excessive tree planting. Other examples are unnecessary artificial ponds that could be drained, penal rough that could be mowed, etc.

4th hole is ridiculous. The sidewalk of an approach fairway is damn near imposible to hit if you have to lay up. Fairway mowed too narror for the average player. Then there is the 1 mile commute to the next tee. Not every course that has been built should have been built. While there are some good holes on the course, the world is no better off that it was built.

Probably a bit harsh but it seemed like they built a short narrow golf course because that is all the land they had. Have you played Harbortown? I have not. I wonder if they are similar.

Along these lines, there is a little 9 hole mom and pop'er near me that went NLE. I'd like to bulldoze the scrub that has grown over and build another. It was the ego building course of all-time - can't remember ever reaching a 510 yard par 5 with two 5 irons before... :)

I'm sure everyone would support bulldozing Cypress and building the Raynor version, once the plans are found...

Played it once. Not going back.
And they built a drag strip literally next door.
Wish I knew how to do a google map picture. Classic.

Agreed.

But here is what I wish could happen:  if a course had multiple architects put in proposals, have each of those hung in the clubhouse for comparison and "what could have been".  But I'm thinking not many clubs would ever do that!

High Pointe.

After bulldozing down all the overgrowth, have the course shaped back up, seed it and get it open again!

That facility for the locals is still an excellent place to go play golf. There's not much good golf architecture in San Diego, so why would you bulldoze one of the best places to play?

It just strikes me as a very inept effort on an incredible site while spending ultra high $.

As long as you don't bulldoze the other course - it's where I had my only ace! The Harbor Course isn't my favorite, but it really wasn't that bad. Spread out, yes (incredibly so if you've never played it), but it's better than having only one course.
