Hello GCAer's
My name is Matt Taylor and I am fortunate enough to be a new member. I have been lurking for a year or so now and am excited to get involved. A little bio about me, I am 18 years old and attending my first semester of college in Florida playing D1 college golf. I have been fortunate to grow up around the game and have played some great courses around Florida and the country. Some of my favorites in Florida include Calusa Pines, Quail Valley, Bay Hill, Bears Club, Bear Lakes, and many others. Playing junior golf in Florida allows you to see some great courses! Some of the my favorite courses I have played outside Florida include NGLA, Shinny, Maidstone, East Hampton (in 4 straight days!), Olympia Fields, Chicago Golf, Medinah, Desert Forest, Grandfather NC, Wolf Run, and Diamond Creek. I was also fortunate enough to play Pebble Beach in The First Tee Open in 2010. Competing in a professional tournament at Pebble still gives me chills today.

Hope to get to know the community here and have some fun when college allows me a break....

Welcome Matt - Nice opening intro.

Look forward to talking some of this stuff with you.

Is there anything in the world like 9 - 11 at Shinnecock the first time through?

Where in Florida did you grow up?

Sounds like we can round out a foursome for a GCA Match at The Claw!

Jim,

I've played The Claw.  I'm curious if you could get two more who'd want to play it again;)

Welcome to the board. I enjoyed the Hatter`s home track, Victoria Hills a few years ago. Is it still Stetson`s home course?

Do you agree with JC Jones that most Florida courses are Doak zeros?

I believe that statement is correct, unless there is someone out there that won't admit to being a Hatter.

Unfortunately, when I was at Stetson our home course was Southridge, aka The Rock. Quite possibly the most poorly conditioned course I've EVER played (when I played it during homecoming about 4 years ago). We'd occasionally play Deland CC, which was actually sort of OK for a lower level private club. We'd even get out to Indigo Lakes and Pelican Bay in Daytona periodically. In retrospect, they were all pretty terrible, just like my golf ability back then.

Yes it is, it struggled financial during the recession along with everyone else, but the last year was better and it is back into good shape. We can some occasional play over at LPGA Intl. also.

There are some great courses around FL, but yes most are 0's, maybe even some negative numbers! The Condo Commando Club's as we call them down in Naples. Nothing like 2 story condo's bordering every single hole on a course, and having to cross a road to get to every tee. I stay away at all costs! Older people get very possessive of their bundled communities.

If you play like that, what could you possibly contribute to a website on golf architecture? We all know it's the sticks that are the ruination of golf courses, and the principles of the golden age. You're toast!

Just taking the cue from Sully (Jim Sullivan). ;D

I'll refrain from further comment so I don't dig myself too big of a hole to start ;)
