Are there any? With "golf resort" I mean a great hotel plus on-site golf course. I know that there are a lot of good courses in both countries, but do any of them have an on-premise hotel that does more than just sleep visiting golfers? It should be worthwile for non-golfers as well, for example with wellness/spa offerings.

Although it is not strictly a resort, the combo Spa in Belgium (yes, that is what the place is called), with Royal GC des Fagnes is excellent; plenty of nice hotels and restaurants in town and a vintage Tom Simpson Golf course with weekend access. You may even be able to combine with Royal Sart-Tilman, an underrated Simpson classic near Liege.

Royal Zoute at Knokke is another option; great dormie house, fine Belgian cuisine and lots of hotels with spa and restaurants nearby as well in the resort town of Knokke.

The dutch classics are all private courses with limited weekday access and little or no options during weekends.

Yes, I know about the Spa and Knokke areas, but I'm looking for a resort where course and hotel are on the same site. The only one in Benelux that I know of is Brunssummerheide. It doesn't need to be a classic course.

There are a few more in the Netherlands; Bilderberg Lauswolt; Hotel is on site, but the course is not Hotel owned. They do offer packages however and the course is actually quite interesting. The same goes for Hotel Klein Zwitserland near Golfbaan Heelsumse veld; a course on restored heathland near Arnhem. The course was actually built on the landing site of operation Market Garden. Also Purmerend; 36 hole complex North of Amsterdam with courses on former farm land.

There are a few more, but the first two are the only ones I would consider worthwhile...

There is also Henri Chapelle, 36 holes with a good hotel on site, between Maastricht and Aachen.

Ulrich, no hotel planned at Swinkelsche at the moment, just very good golf  ....

But seriously, I would never put a hotel om my golf course unless it was a very remote location where you need the hotel to get people to come. Hotels can be cash drains, Purmerend is a good example, the hotel there went bankrupt and pulled the original golf course operator down with it.

Maybe the Purmerend hotel was a dud - obviously you won't want that on your course or, for that matter, anywhere else

But a great hotel and a great golf course are a win-win situation, I think. They don't need each other, being great by themselves, but will mutually profit.
