Shiskine and Handicapping
« on: July 26, 2011, 07:04:40 PM »
Does anyone know how do they do it?

They have 12 holes, a par of 42 and an SSS of 42 from the whites.

Now, if they'd hold an 18 hole competition (say by playing the front 6 twice), these values obviously wouldn't work for handicapping. So do they play their qualifying rounds over 12 holes only? But I don't find anything about 12 hole qualifying rounds in the CONGU regulations. They only provide for 9 or 18 holes.

Perhaps Shiskine extrapolate their 12 hole results to 18 hole equivalents?

Of course the easy answer would be that they only play match in Arran - but then why bother keeping SSS values?

They certainly do play medals at Shiskine but I can't remember how they calculate the score with reference to your handicap. A good friend of mine spends a week every year on Arran with his daughter and plays several rounds at Shiskine under medal play to keep his handicap because he rarely plays in comps at his "home" club.

Well, perhaps you could ask him whether the comps at Shiskine are over 12 or 18 holes (and which six holes they play twice, if the latter)? Maybe he also knows something about the handicap situation.
