How crazy is Joe Bausch? Really ?
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:54:24 PM »
So, I'm sitting at my Rotary meeting today and the guy next to me knows I'm golf crazy. He asks me if I can help him prove the existence of an NLE course nearby. I tell him I recall it being mentioned in "Missing Links" but I wasn't sure how to prove it. I told him I would look into it.

So, I immediately decided to email Joe seeing if he had a lead. Veeery soon thereafter I get a return email with a reference to two articles from a now defunct paper  from the 1930's !!!! And a state geological/historical website I could go to.

So, I ask you   "How crazy is Joe?"

Not at all. Joe is a researcher, and that is what they do.

Jaka mentioned John Feinstein earlier today and that guy is an incredible researcher. Not so sure as a writer, but he is a great researcher.

By the way, that was a Top 10 Jaka:

It's like Scotty Pippen and John Feinstein had a love child.

If crazy means crazy smart, then he's crazy.

I thought the missing links courses were fictional.

 Adam,

With all due respect, I'm not sure you can judge who is crazy or not.

Mike, I can't judge? I'd say it's an easy one. We all crazy. Now stay out of my psychosis. ;)

Joe probably gets more out of a day than most and thoroughly enjoys what he is doing. As far as how crazy he is depends on who is doing the evaluation.

He's the Indiana Joe(nes) of Golf Course Research.

There is no case too big or too small, and I can't thank him enough for how much he's added to my understanding of early golf course history, particularly around Philadelphia.

He also has great taste in food and wine and tells terrifically tasteless dirty jokes he picks up at his local dive bar.

How crazy is Joe?

Crazy enough to play with Jerry Kluger (not shown) Michael Whitaker (a temporary New Yorker) and me, a life-long New Yorker.

Wearing this shirt :)

To be fair, the course was in Philliy territory...

Can we get a slow motion video and/or frame-by-frame view of Joe's swing?

Probably not...there is no camera in the world fast enough!

Sorry Jon, no videos. But here is an interesting result of one of Joe's drives :) This poor old guy is in his mid sixties :(

Wanna guess where the other caddy is and why he temporarily is only carrying one bag? :) :)

You're right Bill - Joe's the only guy who has to tip both caddies.

I'm guessing that Joe is about as crazy as all of the rest of you posters on this website, at least he has pretty pictures.

I'm questioning my own sanity these days, also.

And Mayday that includes you re: questioning the sanity thing!!! Surely there are better investments than time spent squabbling here!

He's certifiably...golf mad, research driven, cuisine and refreshment centered, a jester,  and our own GCA Joe, don't ya know?! ;D

Cheers to a crazy-fine Philly gent!
