Evergreen GC and Black Hawk Colorado.

What a treat both of these are.  I wanted to play Fossil Trace when flying out of Denver so booked an inexpensive room in the casino town of Black Hawk and an early morning round at Evergreen GC.  Evergreen is a par 69 public course sitting at 7200 feet above sea level stretched to 4900 yds with a rating of 62.4 and a slope of 111.  $36 including cart and all the Elk you can spank.

I am surprised that more people do not rave about playing at elevation.  Wow, I do love hitting the ball like the young boys.  Hitting driver 60 deg to par fives and driving 370 yd par 4's never gets old.  All this combined with a par 69, 4900 yd course is a great way to start the day after a night at the casino.  It's gonna take a nudge to get me back out in the heat and humidity of home.

Anyone else played Evergreen?

Beg pardon?  I'm not really up on all the hip-hop lingo.

Did you check out the wine list?

it wasn't bad.  a lot of par 3.5's.  i little quirky.  some holes pretty good.  some not so good.   cool to see and hear the elk.

When I lived in Denver my golf buddies and I might head up to Evergreen some time in the dog days of August, to get in a little mountain golf without the time, traffic and expense of playing at a mountain resort course. It was more about being away from the city, with perhaps a few beers, Margaritas, and Mexican food in the town of Morrison on the return trip. Weekend play was notoriously slow, perhaps since Evergreen seemed to be a favorite of neophytes. As to the course per se, I always liked the change of pace, playing all those short par fours. The most notable element of quirk was the par 3 with the green hidden behind a huge boulder, upon which was painted a large white directional arrow, see http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,46218.0.html, Reply#20.
