WORLD'S OLDEST GOLF SHOP RE-OPENS
« on: May 04, 2011, 06:16:17 AM »

The Old Shop reopens, check out the link http://www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/Golf/News/searchresults/April-2011/Worlds-oldest-golf-shop-re-opens/# and note the photos. The one behind glass shows what was found during the refurbishment Set of Old Toms clubs, Young Tommys locker.

At last the shop may well be worth buying from again.

Thank goodness, I'll finally have a place to buy a Skycaddie or a golf cart next time I'm in St. Andrews  ;)

Looks like Old Tom was playing hybrids back in the day.

The Old Shop

It’s alright Guys, I get zero from the shop – the shop was left to Old Toms grandson, my line is via a granddaughter who got the big house behind the shop  with the entrance on Pilmour Links.

So spend freely knowing I will not receive a penny.

Some of the electronic gadgets, like Mission Impossible may self-destruct after 5 seconds  and can be activated by remote - feeling lucky Carr?

PS David  For you I am sorry but they are out of stock as stocked piled by the Hunter Morrows

Tiger

There is no accounting for taste, but the old shop management left a lot to be desired – I do not think they knew the potential of what they had.  Let’s hope the Links Trust do a much better job.

Good start so far.

Auchterlonies has always been number uno to me.

At the 2005 Open I fell madly in love with a mashie niblick there, signed by Laurie himself, to the extent that I paid £75 for it!  Lovely club.

Melvyn I agree and hope for the same. Bill I had a beautiful hand crafted driver made for me there. It is a work of art and feels so good to hit.

It would be very cool if they got a skilled craftsmen in making 1870-80's era longnose putters that match what Tom was producing in that time. I can personally vouch for the functionality of those clubs. I bet they would shoot out the door faster than they could be made.

It'd be even cooler if they carried original lefty Tom Stewarts!

I was just there and the shop is very cool.  Under the front window is the original bench Old Tom used, and there's an old fireplace just next to the cash register.  It was my first time over there, so all I know is this new shop, and it was a must-see.

Based on what I have owned and know about, I would estimate there is somewhere between 50-100 left, so that won't happen in anyones best fantasy. It would be cool in that Morris did sell, and personally play Stewarts.

Guess that explains why I've been able to come up with a grand total of one!
