Never heard of #100, Vesper Country Club, a Ross course in Mass?   Learn something everyday...

Check the location of The Country Club ranked at 119.  May be some confusion leading to your frown. :)

Kevin,

No confusion on my part!  None! :)  It's the best course in NE Ohio

There are missing numbers and/or ties on both of these #101-200 lists. I think there are actually 99 Classics and 102 Moderns.

Well, if there's no confusion, I wish I could join you in your protest - but I've never seen the Cleveland version of TCC.  Usually, my work visits to NE Ohio include a trip to Sleepy Hollow (pretty nice to have a Stanley Thompson for a city course).  I've been up to Stone Water, and I once tortured myself with 18 holes at Thunder Hill in Madison.

It's worth the $1.99 to see who purchased full page ads.

Who would have thought Tommy leaving this site would have been the downfall of his beloved Rustic Canyon.  I do love that course.

I admire any Golfweek rater who has the gumption to call a club a full half point out of the rankings and ask for access.  I'd fold my own shirts to take that call.

Ballyhack is not a top 200 course, really?  This list is the worst thing for golf in years.

John,

Per Brad's comments on the other thread, it takes 15 rater evaluations to make any list.  Is it more likely that Ballyhack didn't meet the quota?

If 15 raters played Ballyhack, and it wasn't in the Top 100 (yet alone 200), that's an absolute travesty.  I think it would reveal how much raters are influenced by a fancy clubhouse (which hasn't been completed yet).  From a number of the listings I've seen, Ballyhack is pretty high on the "Most Underrated Course" list.

For me, I join Ran in saying I'd play Ballyhack over Kinloch given my choice of Lester George offerings.

Kevin,

Please note that the courses without enough ballots are listed.  The excuse of not enough ballots is gone.

That is got to be the lowest rated US Open course, no?

I didn't read it that way. I think that just means the course has at least 12 ballots, but less than 15. If it has less than 12, its still missing.

You read good.  Sorry, the excuse exists.  Every course not mentioned including The Pines at The Prairie Club must not have gotten 12 votes.  Whew!

No. Torrey Pines South at 6.22 is worse.  Chambers Bay is the worst to have a train derailment and not get a mention on GCA.  Talk about Whocaresville.

Actually, I think it may have been rated that low.  Looking at the "Best New Course Listings" for 2010, Ballyhack was given an average rating of 6.33, which would fall outside the Top 200 (assuming the rating scales are the same for both lists).

Given that, a rating of 6.33 (compared to 6.43 for #200) is nothing short of a travesty.

I would love to see the ratings in more detail to determine where these people think Ballyhack falls short.  Again, I'll reiterate my theory that certain raters are "amenity-spoiled" and couldn't get past the fact that the temporary club-house and pro-shop were simply trailers throughout 2010.

Now that the grandiose clubhouse is being completed, I wonder if the "course" will be deemed better in future years.

Long time coming for Sleepy Hollow! Now let's hope Olympia Fields can get both courses in the top 100.

Do the math.  You would need an equal number of raters to believe the course is top 25 just to break the top 100.  The only thing this new list has done is issue death sentences.

And no Knollwood or Exmoor....but Evanston?  Sure.

Just an honest question - did Evanston host a raters event during the last few years?
