James was a real competitor playing off 13!!

Drained everything in his Sunday morning match with Kev Pallier against Mike Whitaker and me en route to an easy win.

You should see how far I can hit it with a 1-inch backswing. ;)

That's what your wife hears you say.

I think you are selling yourself short champ - I recall the match going down to the last hole with us 1up (only after I sunk a long putt on 17) and James getting a miraculous up'n'down from 100m out on the 18th...

Ach yes! Never under-estimate the competitive nature of James.  He whipped me in the singles match. From memory ( I am trying to block it out) I was 2 up at the turn and was walloped 4 in 3. Now don't go saying I choked surely tae God one chokes over the final iron into the last green or a clutch putt......not when there are 9 holes to go and yer in front!

Say it aint so....

Cheers Colin

KP:

You're right, it was a win at the last, perhaps my memory is down to knowing deep down that we seemed accounted for as early as the 13th.

Matthew,

Awesome pics!  Perfect lighting to capture those contours.  Thanks for posting.

All,

Did anyone go for the green from the tee on Lost Farm's 5th?  You can see the green from the tee.  Matthew's pic captures this well from atop the Dunes 15th/16th.  I'm going to guess it's not some coincidence the grass is nice and short around the opening coming in from the right.  It would take one hell of a poke to make it, but with the tailwind ... maybe doable?

Geoff Ogilvy tried from the black tee at LF #5 next to the water cutting in November 2010, and flushed a few with a strong following wind (perhaps 2 or 3 clubs).  Never seen again though.  It is a very long carry......

From the black tees, 279 meters to the dead tree on top of the dune, we estimated it was another 30m to fly the dune from there...so 330 yard CARRY!

I think Wayne knocked it on from the upper 16th tee at BD. This might be the view:

Actually,  the pic that James Bennett posted from the upper tee at BD 16 to the 4th at Lost Farm is the shot I hit that day.  James was nice enough to give us a personal tour of BD during our match and pointed out that upper tee to us.  In our second round, it was very late in the afternoon and I suggested we play 16 from the upper tee.  Looking across the water there was no one to be seen on LF so I figured we give it a go to that 4th green on LF.   I think it was about 170 yards and downwind.  I hit a really solid 7 iron hoisted way up in the air and was fortunate to have it land pretty softly to hold the green.  What a thrill!

I knew if I messed up the story I would force Wayne to re-tell his great shot from BD to LF.

Mayhugh asked for no more photos of his swing, so this is a picture of his bag at New South Wales. Please don't comment on his swing (although this one looks pretty good!) David Kelly in the background working on his left hand tan.

The swing looks good there. You'd never guess he had gone about 40 hours without  a wink of sleep by that stage!

What an ugly golf bag John!

I was thinking about John having played with everyone. He has even played with a friend of mine that only plays once a year.

John,

I'm not a golf pro, but I think:

a) We want those hips to square a bit more, belt buckle facing the target like Wayne's, and
b) Keep the clubheads off the fairway when parking the trolley

Really enjoying the photos you are adding to these threads.  Its interesting to see the different styles of photography used by those on the trip.

Hope you continue to add more.
