Tom,

Yes, it was Wed. I was there.

Too bad I didn't know beforehand...you could have stayed with me overnite in Weymouth.

That would have made two English-speaking guests at the Lodge  ;)

They also had a mandatory smoking policy, I believe, although only wine boxes were allowed on premise..no glass.  ;D

***EDIT***  Tom, while playing at TCC (aka Clyde Park), I did note that it was raining too hard for me to stake out the nine new holes I had planned to, so perhaps we were both dreaming.  ;)

A year full of golfing highlights I am pleased to say...

I managed to acquanit myself with some old favourites, specifically Royal Dornoch and Brora where I hadn't been since I was a kid. To get to play those two with some of GCAs past and current finest certainly helped make the experince all the better! As did being able to spend time in a part of the World that I have always loved, with my wife, a big highlight being watching some of Scotland's spectacular wildlife such as ospreys and dolphins! Back to golf, and I did manage to get back to Beau Desert, Brancaster, Lindrick and Notts amongst others...

I also managed to get to play Deal for the first time, having previously caddied there for my brother in Open Qualifying, again with some of you beautiful people.

Quite a few new courses this year for me also, pick of the bunch being Royal Worlington & Newmarket, Swinley Forest and both courses at The Berkshire, Moortown, plus of course, this years Buda! Being able to host a group before Buda down at my beloved Burnham was an absolute pleasure, then Royal Portcawl, Clyne and Pennard were all magical in their own ways, not to mention, again, getting to share time with fellow GCAers. Though possibly the best moment was Eric's "May the Force be with You!"

Now all I need to do is keep my fingers crossed that we dont have a white Christmas and I can get to experience Woking over the holidays! Thanks one and all!

Cheers,

James

I had hoped it would be meeting Tom Paul but frankly, I was underwhelmed.

Finally getting to Rio de Janeiro

Business or pleasure....I hope business.  Just returned from Sao Paulo (business) and Brazil seems like a place that would be ripe for golf.  There are almost no courses.  Maybe the 2016 Rio Olympics and the return of golf will get things started.

My Tops for 2010

- Playing Pasatiempo in September, my first time playing a MacKenzie!
- Bandon in August and two beautiful days
- First year that I've played competitive rounds with my 7/10 year old sons (9 hole Par 3 match play, the boys playing best ball from the front tees against me from the backs).  Best moment was coming to 9 one down. I left the ball 20 feet below the hole from about 170 and they scrambled to make bogey from 50.  After pushing my birdie putt 2-3 feet past hole I faced a squirly par putt which lipped out.  Their celebration on the green put Brookline to shame  :).  Second best (a different day) we came to 8 and I'm two down.  My younger son hits his first on the opposite side of a bunker, but like a 7 year old opts to play his ball instead of his brothers ball lying just short of the green.  After his brother skulls a chip 50 yards past the hole and I pickup for par after missing a birdie putt by a couple of inches, my 7 year old chunks his second into the bunker (followed by some I told you so's from Dad).  He proceeds to hit a soft bunker shot with his US Kids pitching wedge which bounces once twice and rolls in the hole.  I then had to explain that the match was over.
- Best of all, last February on a cold, overcast, windy day with snow still lurking in the shadows, my 10 (then nine) year old played The Manor Resort in Farmville, VA,  a very hilly course which is a tough walk.  I decided to try for the first time with either son walking a full 18.  We spent most of the day by ourselves and finished up just at dusk and as the last pro was locking up the doors.  My son was beat (and not alone) but said it was a great day!
- and a last minute entry, getting final approval yesterday from the boss  :) to attend the Kings Putter next March as my Christmas present! (marketing feedback for the Resort - the Tis the season greeting card from Bandon was a nice conversation starter)

My Highlight was that I received so many good wishes and prayers from friends world wide and a whole bunch from GCA'ers. I am not a terribly religious man but I now believe that  the outpouring of support from all of you allowed me to eventually tee it up on the Ladies tees at MPCC and shoot a 101.

I did have a second one and that was my return to Riviera.

Bob,

Overcoming your health issues was a highlight.

Glad you are enjoying your golf.
