I'm A Patron!
« on: October 07, 2010, 11:40:37 AM »
After 12 years on the waiting list I received the following note from Augusta National Golf Club yesterday:

"We are happy to inform you that your name has been chosen from the waiting list to be added to the Masters mailing list for allocation of two (2) Series Badges beginning with the 2011 Masters Tournament."

Whoo Hoo!!!

No more practice round ticket lotteries for me:  I'm now a "Patron!" ;D ;D ;D

Wow - Congratulations!  How does one get on that waiting list?  I assume it is different than being on the list for the practice round lottery or we'd all get badges after 12 years which wouldn't be practical.  I thought these were all passed down through families.

According to ANGC:  Tournament or "Series" Badges (Thursday through Sunday) have been sold to those on our patron list which was closed due to demand in 1972. A waiting list began in 1972, and was closed in 1978. It reopened in 2000, and it too is now closed. No applications for "Series" Badges are currently being accepted.

I was chosen at random from the practice round lottery participants back in 99 to be added to the 2000 waiting list. I'd almost forgotten I was on that list when the acceptance letter showed up yesterday.

Needless to say I'm very excited!!!

Congratulations, Michael.

And it's good news for me too -- now, after a good shot by Tiger Woods, I might finally hear someone yelling "Way to use the architecture!".

Or maybe not. (I hear they can take away patron-status at a whim....)

"I'm A Patron!"

Damn, I thought you meant you were a particularly good brand of tequila!   ;D

Have fun at Augusta.  My uncle had 4 tickets from 1938 - 1978, but they vanished when he died.   :(

I think what you are saying here is that there's a shot that in 2022 they will re-open the list and I could get randomly selected to be on the list at which some time between 2022 and 2034 I might be selected for tickets?

What you're really saying is "I've got a chance!"

Yes!!!!!

Mike,
ANGC made a good choice.  I don't imagine there are many in the country, much less the southeast, that love the game more or do more for it than you do.

Enjoy being a patron; I hope next spring is one of those Aprils that we get every now and then that just blow our doors off with perfect weather, absolute beauty, and a Masters for the ages.

Best regards,
A.G.

You might want to check that though-a series badge has traditionally only been good Thursday-Sunday :(

Good move not moving in the last 10 years.

Maybe the 100 year old lady that lived in my place is on the waiting list too.  I may need to change my name.

Jeff - you are correct... they're only good Thur-Sun. Guess I'll miss the Par-3 on Wed.  :'(

No, not quite that lucky.  After much searching, Mike was able to pull off a decent deal on flights for the Boomerang.  So two good things today.

I have a family friend who has been to all but one of the Masters.  They finally talked him into using one of those scooters last year.  His wife used to play in the clubhouse as a child there - um, before Jones and Roberts bought it.  Her Dad had lent money to Roberts when the club was in trouble and they had some sort of disagreement which resulted in him refusing to visit again.
This gentleman that still goes to the Masters every year owned a hotel in Highlands, NC where Jones used to spend a considerable amount of time in the summer.  He played with him once actually.  Being well into middle age now and having seen a lot there is not to much that really staggers me - but when someone is sitting there at a dinner talking to me about playing golf with Bobby Jones...
