Kiawah 2012 Tickets
« on: August 04, 2010, 11:02:38 AM »
For those interested in coming to Kiawah Island for the 2012 PGA Championship, y'all better act now.  We're only going to have 27,000 tickets available for the event so make sure it's the best experience possible for those viewing.  Only 18,000 going to the general public (the rest are corporate hospitality, volunteers, etc.)  We just announced to the media yesterday that we have a pre-registration process in place where people can get on a list for November ticket sales.

As of this morning we've have online pre-registration for over 10,000 tickets!  This thing is going to sell out probably within a week or so.  So, those who would like to pre-registor, go to www.pga2012.com and sign up.  There's no commitment at this time.  That will come in November when they tickets actually go on sale.

Mike,

Is the limited number due to the course's ability to handle crowds or the island's inability to host a larger number? I was stunned when reviewing the numbers from the tour event at the Greenbrier... 42,000 in one day? How? Where? The "post game" traffic must have been as bad as leaving a Clemson football game (perhaps some Tigers on here understand what that means).

Kerry Haigh and Pete Dye came out here and worked with our golf admin people to assess on-course traffic flows, grand stand locations, cooling stations, etc. and said that that would be the number to insure the best experience for those attending.  Like Pat said, overcrowding the course makes for a bad experience for everyone.  We have plenty of parking out by Freshfields Village between Kiawah and Seabrook island.  Additionally, we're looking at running shuttles from downtown Charleston.

It comes from our 5-star pedigree where the most important thing is making sure word-of-mouth of the experience is the best it can be.  With 105 hours of International TV coverage, we'll be well compensated...

I had forgotten it was down there in 2 years.  Being just a few hours up the road now, I'll have to sign up.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Mike - Will there be any special conditioning of the dunes to facilitate foot traffic?

Since all of the dunes on the back nine were created by Pete after Hurricane Huge, many will be leveled off to give a natural grandstand and covered in mulch.  Once the event is over, they will be rebuilt and within 6 months, you'll never know the event was there...
