Greatest day in golf
« on: July 31, 2010, 09:05:25 PM »
Just completed the best day of golf ever. I got very lucky and pulled off an epic duo.  Teed off at 750 this morning at pine valley. Got done the round, had lunch and got in the car to head north to long island where it took 6 hours before we arrived at the first tee of national golf links.  We played 18 in 1 hour and 50 minutes and finished with enough light to play another hole.  I'm dead now

Well, you might be dead right now...but we need more than that.  How was it?  Favorite holes?  Which course did you like better?  how the hell did you get around NGLA is less than 2 hourse?!?!?

Solid day, Matt!

My best in a while was playing 36 at Holston Hills where we WON lunch AND dinner from our host, Eric Smith and then drove 4 hours to Belterra where the casino was kind enough to give me cash to pay for the entire trip.

Hard to beat that duo.  Puts Arcadia/Kingsley and Montauk/Bethpage to shame.

Spending just two hours on the course at NGLA sounds more like a huge disappointment to me.

I did think that was a very fast round, to be sure. Even if he did take only 2 hours to play NGLA, I still hate him.

Matt,

You must be a damn good golfer get around any course in less than 2 hours!  I don't think my 85 shots a round would take more than that regardless of the circumstances.

I played in a 3 some with fellow GCAer Ari Techner. I know it sounds like a fast round but I would rather spend 2 hours there then no time at all. Ari and I and planning a trip to top that one

I must confess to turning down PV and Merion on the same day.

Didn't get to play a full round at Merion but played 4 holes a couple of days earlier and had a lovely supper on the terrace followed by a fine tour of the clubhouse. I've yet to return but will hopefully next year along with a longer PV visit.

Matt - was it another of those Techner "working" days?? You should have invited M**hugh and 'coptered to Long Island that would have given you time to play Shinnecock as well!!

That was another Techner work day. Now that I am an employee as well I can enjoy those days as well. It's funny you mention a helicopter and playing 54 because that is our plan. I don't know of we want to play PV national shonnecock. Or PV shinny fishers.  Any opinions?

Sounds to me as if you'll need legal counsel along as well. . . I'd be more than happy to make myself available!

Wait, clarification please...

Did you take a cart at National?  You must have.

Is Garland now known as "Double Bogey"?

We did not take a cart at national. Our caddy drove our clubs for us and we hustled around there pretty quick. We are on our second 36 hole day and  were hoping to make it to Yale in time but new York traffic sucks. I will post pics Tuesday when we return
