Request for image of original R&A Clubhouse
« on: March 16, 2010, 06:42:16 PM »
Dear GCA,

I was wondering if anyone has an old photo or painting of the original R&A cluhouse before it was extended to its current state. I can remember seeing an image of a single storey building before 2 floors were added to it.

Thanks in advance

Cheers
Ben

Ben,
The book "The Scrapbook of Old Tom Morris" has a number of drawings and pictures.

Guys,

Wow, thanks for your input. It proves that the cluhouse was originally a single storey building and they added floors on top of it over time. As the size of the clubhouse increases the strength of the club itself increases as well as the game of golf itself.

Cheers

Ben,
The R&A clubhouse, just after it was built in 1855.

I'll bet you can't guess (Melvyn) who had this in his possession.  :o

Bob Huntley should be able to draw it from memory.

I think he was a member when it was around, he's that old.
