Tiger Should have Turned Heel
« on: March 03, 2010, 06:04:32 AM »
A week or two from Tiger's press conference, I continue to wonder whether his strategy of becoming a family man again makes sense.
Rather than pathetically try to return to the old Tiger, or better yet, the old perception of Tiger, why don't he just embrace a "bad boy" image?   Like a professional wrestler turning heel, Tiger would gain popularity from the largely male demographic that has always been the core of his popularity.

Over the last few months, Tiger's "family man" image was revealed to be a fraud.   He cheated on his wife so many times, it is ridiculous to even explain it away.  How can you ever try to reclaim the old Tiger?   No one wants to hear about his "sex addiction."  No matter what he does, he will never win back Oprah.  Stop trying....

Tiger should play golf, divorce his wife, and man the VP booth at the clubs in Miami and Vegas.   At least then, he would be interesting again.

Regardless of if this is something even remotely close to Tiger's PR plan or not he may be stuck with the bad guy tag for the near future. Unfortunatly for his checkbook, major sponsors aren't really down with the whole bad guy persona.

Daly has been living off this years, to boot playing bad golf for most of those.

I think Tiger could do well with the bad boy image, especially if he takes it to the course and whips up on the good boys....

We need the Tiger with the Goat and bleach blonded hair and the swagger, how can this not be a winner?

While no doubt the kids are the real victims here, because it sucks for them as either way they lose....

...but I can't see how Elin takes him back.  I mean if it was one indsicretion during a weak moment, ok almost anyone can get past that.  But how can you have any self-respect or diginity and be in Elins shoes and take him back when he's been shagging porn stars and lord knows what else?  At what point do you worry about your own safety in terms of potentially getting STDs?

Would any of you take back your wife if you found out she had been sleeping with several men, several times, resulting in a pregnacy or two from various business trips?  And then she continued to make those business trips, despite her being apologetic?  Is there anyway you could ever trust her again?  NO WAY IN HELL!!.....and this is what Elin is facing....Tiger will once again return to golf, be away from home a ton and all those feelings of mis-trust and doubt and cheating will come rushing back as soon as he leaves the front door.

So no, there is no freaking way I'm seeing a reconcilation here unless..

...she just shuts it down..turn off all her emotions, all her feelings, plays the powerless victim, and goes into a total tailspin of self-loathing and denial to stay with him.

Kalen, I think similarly to you, but I think she won't take him back because the panderers and enablers are still around.  Would you want your spouse running with the same crowd that got you into the mess in the first place.

If he's hitting balls and he's at the Masters, then he made the wrong choice...golf over marriage.  Just my $0.02.

Well thats pretty much what I was saying in my prior post....

If there is no lifestyle change, it'd be tough to swallow.

P.S.  Here is an interesting article on people's opinions based on a recent poll.

Elin renegotiates the pre-nup to give her another $50 million if the marriage lasts another 1-2 years. They live separate lives under the same roof, make a few carefully choreographed public appearances en famille, and then in a year or two when most of the heat is gone, they have a quick divorce.

She can already get how many millions now?  I just don't see it as worth it to her for the extra jack....but maybe thats just me.

If she was willing to play really dirty, I'd bet she could get half. I'm sure the prenup doesn't state that he can go out and whore around and there be nothing she can do. If she was willing to drag this into court, I doubt any judge or jury would uphold that prenup. I'm no attorney, but given the circumstances, that agreement might not be too solid if she wanted to really fight.

I don't get this comment at all.  Are you saying that kids who have single parents are somehow screwed?  Doomed to failure?
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

No, the comment probably means the kids would be less well off if Tiger decided to go sit at the high roller tables in Vegas and knock boots with porn stars all the time, while leaving Elin.

Micheal,

Not saying that at all.

We all get to have our opinions.

I just question how if Tiger "divorce his wife, and man the VP booth at the clubs in Miami and Vegas" his children are somehow better of??

You guys are missing the point.  No one is suggesting that Tiger abandon support of his kids.   But, clearly both parties are miserable in the marriage.   Sometimes you just have to cut your losses.

JW,

You make a great point.  There has been a ton of research to support that in many cases, kids are actually better off living with divorced parents if it means they aren't subjected to thier parents bickering, aruging, treating other badly, and being non-respectful on a daily basis if they were still together.  Parents are no doubt role-models whether they want to be or not, and often kids can be better off if Mommy and Daddy aren't seen interacting badly even if they only get to see Dad once per week.  Hell given Tigers travel schedule, if they were divorced, the kids experience with Tiger probably wouldn't change much anyways.
