This is an oil painting Plan View of Prairie Club sans the Horse Course.  Lots of acreage covered here.  Holes are numbered if you look close.  Lehman upper right, Marsh lower left.

Just the Lehman course....

Excellent thread, the essence of what this site is all about. How does one post illustrations, anyway?

Sorry for the camera phone quality.  I was amazed at the length of the course for the 1940's.

That's a cool map of Peachtree...the super-sized tees standout.

Chris, thanks for the Peachtree drawings.  Have some of the alternate tees (like 14 and 15) been abandoned?  I don't remember them.

I have also resized your photos here to fit the screen...

By the way, does anyone care about me resizing the photos?  I am happy to stop if its not helping.

I'd like to thank everyone who has participated in this thread.  It has turned out far better than I could have imagined.  Proof positive of the wealth of knowledge and information within the walls of the DG.  While I appreciate the kind words thrown in my direction, the real praise should go to those who have collected or created all these great materials.  That's why I've tried to give those persons credit when I reposted their items (sorry for stealing your North Berwick thunder James Boon).  Anyway, I have every expectation that this thread will slide off the front page in the not too distant future as enthusiasm wanes.  Regardless, I hope people will remember to add things as they crop up or notify me so that I can do so.  Thanks again!

It is interesting to contrast that plan by Bendelow for Nakoma with his earlier stuff. At the time of Nakoma he was partnered with Myron West at American Park Builders; West was a fairly prominent Landscape Architect. You can see his influence in the drawing, from the use of water feature to the grouping of trees to the presentation style.

Wow, what a bunch of interesting maps and routing plans!  It would be great if there were a way to save this thread and some other vital stuff in an accessible but separate area of the website.

Ed,

No problem! I was only joking  Grin

I always have a scout around any clubhouse I visit for old photos and maps. But from now on I shall take pictures of what I find for posting here. May have a few others in books at home that I'll try and dig out when I have time.

Cheers,

James

Old Mac routing

Should we ask Tom D for more sketches of Old Mac? I would certainly be interested about the evolution from the original sketch to the end product.

The USGA Architecture Archive has several good ones. I don't believe the provide any way to link to them from an outside website. They have some huge ones for Merion, Pinehurst and others, as well as a good one for Oakmont.
