Paul - I am not sure what your saying would be a majority view. I was with someone this morning that cited The Belfry as his favourite course, when I questioned him he said.. the drama, the history, where Seve drove the green, Sam holed the putt. In some respects the Belfry is hand in hand with the renaissance of The Ryder Cup, pre Belfry days it was not much of an event. The Belfry has some average bits but so do lots of championship courses, but the whole thing (TOC 18th) gets elevated by history. I think if you asked the average golfers where do you want to play Westward Ho! or The Belfry it would be a landslide. This site is very narrow what it likes and dislikes and is not a fair reflection of the masses, I am more liking the minimal thing since I found this site, but its a long haul to convince all. The good thing about the Belfry for match play purposes is there are lots of dramatic bits on that back 9, the easy 10th, the hard 12th, par 5 15th, tricky green at 16, par 5 17th and then 18. The biggest plus is location and ease of viewing. The Ryder Cup is very commercial and raises millions that gets directed back into PGA golf, they cant go to somewhere which wont maximise the £££££.
