Bandon Trip May 27-30
« on: January 14, 2010, 09:20:19 PM »
We are set for a joint trip to Bandon May 13 - May 16 between Golf Odyssey (see David Baum March 2007 Feature Interview) and GolfClubAtlas and it sold out to 48 people in less than one week. The problem is this: it sold out before I made a post and now I am getting death threats from people like George Bahto and Joel Stewart as to why they weren't invited (I left town for a week in mid-December before making a post and when I returned, it was too late).

In an attempt to accommodate the high demand, if we act by mid-next week, we can arrange 20-24 times for Thursday, May 27th until Sunday, May 30th. Same trip (here is a link with details: http://golfclubatlas.com/golf-and-travel/bandon-2010) though we will see Tom Doak at this one as the grand opening for Old Macdonald is June 1st. In fact, still stinging from our match at Sebonack, Tom has agreed to climb back into the arena for a hickory match against me at Old Mac. Similar to the historic thumping that first Tom Huckaby and then Pat Mucci took at Sand Hills, this match also will not be televised (unless the Comedy Channel picks it up, that is!).

I am traveling all next week without my laptop so please let Ben (http://golfclubatlas.com/contact) know by Wednesday morning, January 20th if you want to commit. If less then sixteen people are in, then we won't push to do it. However, hopefully like with the first trip, interest will be high and I'll see you there!

Cheers,

Tom_Doak

Ran:

Just for fun, I think we should invite the attendees to be in the gallery for our match.  It would be a good way to get a tour of the golf course, though I suspect most of them will have played it before my arrival.

Ran I think I speak for all of us that already have trips booked directly through Bandon for that weekend when I say your first drink is on me.

I'd also love to be in the gallery for "the match."  Mike Hendren would probably be disappointed in me if I didn't caddie for Tom.

Ran you Dog: ..."now I am getting death threats from people like George Bahto and Joel Stewart"

negative fella - you KNOW darn well that I'll be there at the  -  I'll be "working"   (??)   :P

..........  I was once rooting for you in the "match" - now I'm not sure

This going to be a fun time guys

And they have the Macdonal Cup event there at the same time as your first group.

If a player insists on playing his maximum power on his tee-shot, it is not the architect's intention to allow him an overly wide target to hit to but rather should be allowed this privilege of maximum power except under conditions of exceptional skill.

I would certainly enjoy a chance for revenge.  This time the match does not get decided on the first tee, you shyster.

Email sent.  Perhaps this time I shall get a response.

It's about time Ran addresses the "thumpings" that were mentioned when Mucci detailed the trip, although not providing greater detail.

I do hope that we will get a detailed play by play of the match between Messrs. Morrissett and Doak.  Maybe Mucci could be persuaded to attend said event so as to provide the commentary?

I would love to be there to witness Golf's Most Beloved vs. The Golden Boy but I am already scheduled to watch two mules fight over a turnip that day.

I'm betting Tim Bert brings home a divot from one of Mr. Doak's approach shots.

Tom, if you feel like you need a TRO to keep Tim at a safe distance, I can help you with that.  Or, possibly it will be like a Micheal Jackson thing and he'll just start crying and then faint.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

All right gentleman.  Let's not go too far.  I am married, a couple of kids, work for a living, interact with people on a daily basis, mostly just about as normal as all you other golf course geeks.  My fascination is with the golf courses, and not with Mr. Doak himself.

At this rate, I'm going to get banned from the property.  You guys are just angling to get my prime tee times that week.

If you guys want to do something really cool, then do Shot Tracker type of live scoring. It's not just for the pros, everyone can do it.

Every player needs one person with an iPhone, who accompanies him. Could be the caddie or the player himself, but best to have a third person. Then there's an app called EZGPS for the iPhone, with which you can easily input every shot, how long it was, where it ended up, even what club was used, if you like. This data is transmitted instantly to a website, where everyone can follow the match as it develops. You can also put all the match data onto Google Earth and see everything there, who hit the longest drive, how many putts etc.

A friend of mine routinely does this while playing, so it must be pretty easy to do for someone in the gallery.

A pity it clashes with Kings Putter.  If they had've ran into each other I think I would have made the trip.

Where is the KP this year? I will be in Northern Cal around those dates, I could help drag down the chances of whatever team I was put on.......

You know, there might be some cameras in the vicinity that day. Might even have some pretty powerful telephoto lenses to not interrupt play(I promise this time Tom).

A Leprechaun has just whispered in my ear that these dates conflict with KP; I find it terrible form and counter-productive for two epic gatherings to essentially cannibalize each other and something needs to be done to resolve this.

Can either be rescheduled? This is just wrong on countless levels and dammit, KP was on the calendar first. It ought to be one or the other - or one of them changed so we do not have two separate tribal gatherings running concurrently.

Ran? Kyle should not get hosed - and we both know he will because so many GCA celebrities will be up in Bandon. >:(

Gib:

The schedule conflict is probably my fault.  Ran asked if I could attend a second Bandon event [since I can't attend the first], and I told him the best way was to time it in conjunction with my attendance at the Grand Opening on June 1.

That date, you're not going to change.

I will also be at the resort in very early May with a group from the Evans Scholars Foundation.  Trying to get back in between would mean I had to write off May for actual productive work, and I really can't afford to do that.

Well, perhaps I am being a bit presumptuous as I was not issued an invitation to the festivities. Such is life on the "B-list" in the GCA hierarchy  . . . .

I was disappointed by the conflict as well but had my tee times booked at Banodon before the announcement of P
KP. While the KP might have been penciled first as a gca event everyone here could have pegged June 1, 2010 as the opening for OM about two years ago.

Kyle has invested a ton of energy in his event and has a great lineup. I don't hunk it is fair to ask either to re-schedule. Sometimes we all have to make tough decisions and I am sure both will be well attended and high on the fun factor list.

Uh, yeah, I guess.  If being a member at one of the great clubs in the country AND being involved in the genesis of arguably the most important golf architecture project of the new century is B-list.  Then yeah, you're on it Rockstar.    :)
