Yes of course it has been discussed in depth on this site, but....
I was on EBay for the first time yesterday and I was amazed at the price for Tom Doak's confidential guide, the one with pictures!
Only $7-800 for the book, wow. What gives with the price for the Anatomy of a Golf Course, $9.99? That confuses me and it shows the great difference in the knowledge on the net. I have a faxed copy of a portion of the Confidential Guide, which Tom faxed to me on February 20th, 1989 at 5:46 pm (according to the date on the top of the pages) when I was preparing for my first trip to Scotland and Ireland. Also, interesting is that the fact that the fax came from Dye Designs. Also interesting is the fact that the page numbering on the fax does not match the pages in the book. For example Carnoustie is on page 133 of the fax, and in the red, picture-less, is page 156. Makes sense, as the confidential guide has a 1994.
Perhaps Tom will comment on this and give me a starting price on Ebay
I have had the fax in a binder from a stationary shop in the Ginza district of Tokyo and I am amazed at the lack of photo-degradation.
Surely it has more value than the listed $9.99 Anatomy of a Golf Course, which I cherish. Tom thanks for the interesting world you have created for golfers. CG copy holder 367!
